ever since i installed nod32 about a month ago, it has been working well as a program but seems to lag my boot up time my atleat 10seconds. the NOD32 splash screen stays on for about that long and makes the loading of my sidebar slow as well (rather, it makes the sidebar wait till the NOD32 splash screen is gone, then lets it finish loading). here is a print screen of what i think is wrong:
see where it says "/WAITSERVICE" at the end of the start up value?

i think thats the problem but how do i get rid of it?
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i hate long boot up times!![]()

uninstall nod32 and see if that fixes the problem.
if everything is ok switch to avast AV.
if the problem is still there (i belive this is the case) u have the same problem -
lol i have used avast AV and its not bad, i just prefer NOD32
i know for a fact its NOD32, since vista boots perfectly fine w/o nod32 installed. my HD definitely isnt fragmented because i defrag it on sundays at 4am automatically.
i also know its nod32 because my friend, who is also running vista premium, installed nod32 and just told me he is having the same issues. program works perfectly, just that waitservice we think is the key to keepthing things going smoothly... -
Open your registry and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
Double click on the key titled "NOD32 Antivirus System" and delete the "/WAITSERVICE" switch. -
im having the same problem and have just ignored it.
what is the "waitservice"? is it needed? if not im going to delete it also. -
*edit* that didnt do it....the program wont even run now...
any other options? i really would like to keep nod32 to be honest... -
I've been having the exact same problem!
I'll be following this threat closely ... -
not much to follow if no one else has any say in it...
buump anyone? -
will it really matter if you lose 10 seconds in life??
i always put my laptop to sleep when its plugged in and hibernate when on battery -
allan, it sure isn't 10seconds total. its more like 20-30 seconds each time. even though i dont always shut down and have to reboot, at other times i do require it to be done quickly so this is where it holds me back.
plus, who doesnt desire fast boot times. -
ive emailed eset... id suggest others do it as well. maybe they can work on it? they seem to have good support. im waiting for a response as they already gave me a suggestion and it didnt work, hopefully i have some luck w/ the next suggestion.
-
please share with us what you find. i'd appreciate it, VERY much
-
Have you disabled the splash screen in the options?
-
that was the first thing they told me to do. nothing changed.
here is the most recent suggestion. i dont have time to try it until later so ill update later tonight.
Hello,
The symptoms you are reporting can be caused by an NOD32 file that is corrupted.
Corruption of an NOD32 can be caused by:
* interruption or data loss during the download/installation/update process of NOD32
* installation of a 3rd party software
This can be easily repaired by completely uninstalling NOD32 and reinstalling:
1. From the Start menu, select "All Programs"
2. Choose "ESET", then select "Uninstall".
3. Follow the prompts to uninstall NOD32 and then reboot your computer to complete un-installation.
4. Once your computer has restarted, use the "My Computer" explorer, found on your desktop or start menu, to locate and delete the c:\\program files\ESET\ folder.
NOTE: Delete the entire ESET folder ONLY. Do not delete the Program Files folder.
You are now ready to download and reinstall NOD32.
1. Please view the NOD32 download & installation tutorial video:
http://www.eset.com/training/install/NOD32_Install_Standard.html
This controllable video will take you step-by-step through the entire download and installation process at your own pace. It also provides you with same useful tips we'd provide in person, to make setup as easy as possible, even for a novice user.
2. When you come to the download step, please use the following information:
Downloads Page: http://www.eset.com/download/registered_software.php -
i'll give that a try when i get home and get my copy of NOD32, but still...bah
-
well i just tried it out.... didnt work.
It seems to me that NOD is effecting the wi-fi connection on start-up. Thats where the hang up is i think. who knows? thats my guess though because as soon as the nod splash screen comes up my internet connection begins.
Ill send them another email and let them know it didnt work. -
so if u uninstall nod32 everything goes back normal?
this lag happens (from the search i've done) from some services conflict.
i gave a link (in page 1) about the same problem in hp/compaq vista laptops (some models) and a dell laptop.
if u find a solution plz post it.
thnx -
Oiy, another headache caused by a free AV.
Leave NOD32 alone, it is working just fine. What is happening is Windows is trying to detect and establish your network settings while the AV is using some of the files necessary for Windows to complete the task.
Anyhow, see if you can't disable your network connections for startup. This will force you to manually enable your network connections after everything is booted up. If this does indeed help the startup time, it will help address the issue in your communications with the NOD32 people. -
Please try this:
In the NOD32 (v2.7) Control Center, go to the Update settings, click Setup, click Advanced, and select "Dial-up connection" as your internet connection. Click Ok a few times and reboot.
Choosing dial-up might force NOD32 to wait for a connection to be established before attempting to check for updates.
Any changes in boot-up time? -
yep, I was having the problem too. I uninstalled and went with AVG for the time being. That lag lasts a while, and like others have said, blocks wireless. In fact, it blocks other programs from opening too. I like the idea about telling NOD that you are using dial-up. I am going to try it when I get home tonight.

Hey guys, I noticed that you Junknstuff has some other unnecessary startup programs running that could shave some of the 10 extra seconds off. Go to Vista Start Button>Type MSCONFIG in the Start Search box>Go to Startup and uncheck some of that stuff. I know for certain that you don't need Synaptics and JAVA platform at startup. Both of them will work when you need them without bottlenecking your startup. You could experiment with some of the other stuff, but I only have 3 things running at my startup, RM Clock, UltraMon and Syman Corp AV and it boots up fast each time. Hope this helps.
-
u cannot open the control panel, ms outlook hangs etc.
someone gave this solution but i haven't tried it.
@Wingsbr : its not a startup problem but a services conflict that occurs during the boot. so by deleting the startup programs u cannot make the lag disappear totally. -
all very great ideas. i get out of work soon and will try this as soon as i get home. wingsbr, thanks for letting me know. i thought the touchpad always had to be booted up. java i know cant.
-
i got nothing guys....even when i keep the wireless off at boot up to avoid having those services being used, it still lags.
perhaps its time i use avast or avg for the time being.... -
if this is any consolation, i downgraded to XP Pro and NOD32 still lags somewhat on the boot but not as much as in vista...still more or less the same situation though
