I decided to install XP SP2 on my Asus and followed every step in the manual. After deleting partitions, formatting one as NTSF and loaded XP onto it, I was asked to reboot as I would usually do. The I get a black screen, with the message "NTLDR is missing, press any key to reboot" and then it just reboots with the same message. I desperately need help! Need to run XP on it tonight. I'm installing via external cd drive. With a single formatted partition as xp that doesn't work, what can I do! Help please!

I found this:
"Just an update: I appear to be successfully installing windows directly onto the SD card right now. Not sure what state the SSD will be in once its finished (I may have goofed the MBR or worse), or whether the SD card will even boot, but its looking promising.
The way I got round the "ntldr is missing" problem (after the reboot after stage 1 of the windows install) was to enter recovery console (boot from windows cd, press R for recovery), then ran "fixboot d:" followed by "fixmbr" and then copied the boot.ini ntldr and other system files from C: to D:
Still installing now (geee its slow installing to SD card!)... will update if I find anything else."
Seems like to solve this i need to copy boot.ini ntdlr and other stuff from d to c
how exactly do i do that, im a dos n00b!! -

Thanks john, but what exactly should i copy and from where? I only have one partition.
-
Do you have the Windows CD?
-
yes ......
-
You should go to the Recovery console of the CD and try fixboot first.
-
i did with no avail, i also tried
copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\ -
-
keg, been there. john linked me to it
-
And you tried fixmbr?
-
Since this is a new install, I would just reinstall. Have you done that yet?
-
yes, this is my third time and i tried fixmbr too
-
and i tried d to c c to d e to d e to c -
Do you have an OEM or retail copy of XP w/SP2? What model Asus do you have? Did you have problems that led you to reinstall Windows?
-
retail copy with sp2, asus eee pc, no problems, the eee comes with linux preinstalled
-
the manual says to delete all partitions before installing, should i delete the bios too?
-
*crying ................
-
OK the XXit has hit the fan. I just deleted the bios, by mistake actually. Do I still have a chance or did I just turn my ultra cheap ultra portable into an very expensive paper weight?
Someone please help, getting more and more desperate. -
it worked! it worked! all i did was delete the bios partition!
-
You deleted the BIOS? Basic Input Output System? I'm pretty sure that with no BIOS your laptop is supposed to be a paperweight. But apparently yours isn't. I'm not sure you actually deleted it, since you said "bios partition" and the BIOS isn't on a hard drive partition. Maybe you mean the recovery partition?
From what I've read the recovery console fixboot method is the way to go, but I only have experience fixing boot problems with Vista.
NTLDR is missing, help!
