Go to about:flags and enable webpage prerendering. To test go to
google.com
and type in something like engadget.com
hover your mouse over the first link (the link to engadget) for a few seconds and then click. You should see a little "timer" in your URL bar and the page should load essentially instantly.
The reason I say to hover your mouse is to make sure it does it. It's still beta and sometimes doesn't activate unless you wait a moment.
Pretty cool. The pages are literally instant because they're loaded before you click the link.

I make sure to enable nearly everything experimental on every Chrome update. Less stable, but you get all the nifty bells and whistles.
Personally, I enable side tabs, audit and conflict checkers, and every gpu, print, and prerender option. -
For some reason, I can't find this option on 12.0.742.9

Get back to beta =p -
Is it easy to switch to beta? I mean is it simply a matter of uninstalling dev and then installing beta? Not looking forward to messing up stuff and then having to use IE/FF at the moment.

You might get a message that states your settings are from a newer version and cannot be read. If so, you can clear your settings, or just re-install the dev version again.
-
If you get that message it's a very easy fix. simply go to your chrome user_data folder and delete the "web data" file.
