Hi, I got a Western Digital My Book External hard drive and the back up software inside isn't good at all (really crap). So i was wondering if there is a good free back up software and isn't a trial.

    Thanks

well, i can't help you directly. as i have windows home server, full system backups of all my components is a given (and thus everyone should have one :) best thing ever).

but, i just know, if you don't want a system backup, but just a file backup, that vista has one integrated. just type 'backup' into the startmenu and it should pop up.

besides that, i often used synctools for backing up the days before winhomeserver. i used allwaysync myself. others like synctoy from microsoft.

maybe something in that direction? the "feature" of synctools compared to "backup" tools is, you have your original folder structure directly on the external hdd => you can just access and use it directly.

so, those are my little tips. hope it gives some ideas.

I would suggest SyncBack - both with my WD and Omega external HD's.

Windows Vista have integrated backup feature that you use via the Control Panel. For more feature like automatic backup and system image, you need the Business edition (or higher) of Vista if I recall correctly, or Windows7 Professional (or higher).

Well what are you looking for?
A backup software copies files from your HDD to another place like an external HDD (eSATA/USB/Firewire), USB storage device, DVD's, CD's, floppy disk, or network location, at a automatic or manual level. That is all.

Windows Vista and 7 has one in Home Premum, and more complete under higher edition, or you have the software mentioned above wish sure looks it does the trick.
