    G'day

I currently have a thinkpad r61, vista business and a 160gb hard drive. When i explore on the start menu, right click on the c: drive and go to properties it says 90gb used 50gb free. But when i open the c: drive highlight all the contents and click on properties it says all the folders and files only contain 40gb. So that is a 50gb difference, which one is correct?????? Is this a vista bug cause on my desktop and a friends pc, which both run xp the properties r only off by a few gig, not 50!!!!!

    Please help!!!!!

When viewing properties of all the visible folders in C drive, you won’t see page file, hibernate file and System restore files and folders. They take up several GBs but nowhere close to 50 (maybe around 10GB at most).

Make hidden files and system files visible, then check properties again. I think it still won’t show you the space taken up by system restore, but the rest of the files should be taken in to account. Do this as an administrator and empty the recycle bin.

    Both are correct.

The recycle was empty and when i included those extra files the amount of hdd space taken up was only a few gb more. What will happen if I use over the remaining 50gb according to the c: drive properties????

Perhaps a thread title that was a bit more descriptive would help. I'd wager that 99.99% of the threads posted in any forum are posted because someone needs help.

Take a look at this thread/guide. Recheck to make sure you accounted for all those factors mentioned in the guide.
    Where is my HDD space(Vista)

Also in the future, I suggest that you make the title of your thread more descriptive so that you can better get help.
