My kid just did system restore on my pavilion. The problem is that i can no longer run any of the office products, it states " This action is valid for products that are currently installed" every time i try to open one of the office products. Unfortunately i don't have a copy of xp office any more and i have no idea how to get it back. Recovery would work, but then i would lose all of my files.
Can anybody help?
-
if you got office with your computer, you can try contacting HP for a new disc.
-
Try undoing the restoration. Mabye that will fix the problem.
-
how do you undo the restore
-
Go into system restore and there should be 3 options:
-restore computer to earlier time
-make a restore point
-undo last restore
Select the undo option. -
I can only see 2 options, even though there should be three, it has
1. restore my computer to an earlier time
2. create a restore point
still, help has led me to the same place to "undo a system restore", so i can only assume that there should be a third option -
Do the #1 option, then it should go to a calendar where there 'should' be restore points, once or twice every day(or few days). Then just select one and restore it to the last time it worked correctly.
-
there are no restore points prior to august 1st at 10 which is about when it happened, but i will try anyways, and see if that third option (undo system restore) will pop up then. If that doesn't work, i have been instructed to do a non-destructive system recovery
any comments, -
Restore to the aug 1st date was after the restore, and the undo restore that i was then able to do was back to where i was with the aug updates. I am also reluctant to try to do a recovery because, i believe that it would result in myself losing many documents and programs, and i would also still have to install office again, where i am now.
so, for now, i am going to contact microsoft and hp, and see if i can get a free version that i purchased after the 60 day trial. I might also, if this doesn't work, contact a friend to see if i can borrow their disk.
Thank you so much for your help -
Yep, just going to have to load windows on my own, i think a friend has an extra disk, but does anybody know if the torrent downloads are any good (i want corp, not home)
Regards -
You mean download illegally using bittorrent, I wouldn't know anything about that *wink*...but you can get it off of a site like thepiratebay.org, but use an antivirus program and scan it once its downloaded (just in case). Ha, I'm sure some moderator will come along and delete what I said and/or ban me, so I hope you get this soon.

Lol, ahhh, southerngirl, please! Spare me the pain of your harsh moderator hammer of...pain! Ahh, I wasn't suggesting anything specific. I was only pointing out a site and suggesting he watch himself for viruses. Not like I posted a link or anything (hmm, I've already done something like that, ha, that was stupid). Anyway, hope you make out with your office instal problem. Spookyu signing off! *spookyu makes heroic escape*

I didnt think about suggesting openoffice. Its a free open source office program which if you really dont want to install windows etc, you can use open office just now untill MS office gets fixed.
heres the link - www.openoffice.org
