Hello to may be able to help.
I'm having a issue with my laptop and Windows Xp Pro.
for some resin my dvd drive has stop working and I am trying to install my copy of Xp to and refresh the laptop. What I have tryed is making an Iso. and mounting the disk and all goes fine till it restarts and then ask me to put the disk in but I can't because I have mounted it with Power ISO. I can get to the install intro and product key varification but then it goes to the restart and then load some files and ask for the disk.
What I'm thinking but not sure, Can I put the iso onto my 4 gig scan disk usb jump drive and then boot from it as if wher like doing it from the dvd option on the bios setup screen? If you need more info please do ask and thanks in advance.![]()

You can’t mount an image inside Windows to install a fresh copy of Windows. Because, your mounting program and everything else will be gone after the first restart, but the installation still requires the CD.
The only way to install XP from the hard disk is to copy the complete i386 folder on to the hard disk, boot with a DOS/95/98/XP boot disk and run i386\Winnt.exe. However this is going to be a problem if you don’t have a bootable device like CD ROM drive or a Diskette Drive. If your notebook doesn’t support USB booting then you are in a bit of trouble.
Still there is some hope , but its going to be a little tough.
1. take out the HDD and connect it to another PC. Then format making it bootable (FORMAT X: /S), copy i386 folder and reconnect the HDD. Now you can boot and run Winnt.exe from command prompt. This method only works with FAT32.
2.(this may not work always, but if everything else fails, then give it a try), take out the HDD and connect it as a primary to another notebook or a PC, install XP on to the HDD using that PC (don’t install any drivers or special software), remove the disk and connect it back to your notebook. If you are lucky it will boot all the way in, but most probably you’ll get blue screen. Try to see if you can salvage it by booting in to Safe Mode, if not then you’ll have to do a repair install (boot in to safe mode with command prompt then run winnt.exe, again you should have the i386 folder copied on your HDD)
EDIT : I hope you have a IDE HDD instead of SATA, because if you don’t, then it is going to make things even more complicated.
Need Some Guidence
