Hey guys, I need something free, lightweight, and easy to use. I prefer opensource programs, but i know good software comes may ways, i just HATE bloated crap.
One feature i HAVE TO HAVE is that spot touchup tool. Like in photoshop, you use it on peoples faces to remove pimples or blemishes by picking a small area that is close and blending it, getting rid of the bad crap.
An easy resizing feature would be nice too.
Thanks guys, i hope what i am looking for is out there. Because Gimp is far to complicated for me to use and figure out

Picasa2 is a nice easy to use and free program, but i am not sure it fulfills your needs.
-
picasa does not have that one feature i really need. i think it is more of a photo organizer and viewer than a photo editor.
Thanks tho -

Paint.net is good.

I always like GIMP, but it takes a bit of time to get used to using it. Paintshop Pro is also always pretty good but obviously costs money!
-
-
Yeah paint.net is good; it doesn't have a spot retouching feature as easy to use as the photoshop spot healing brush, but it does have a clone stamp tool which you can use to touch up blemishes and stuff like that.
-
Hmm, thanks guys, ive been reading around and will probably try out paint.net. But a lot of what i am finding on the net is that its more of a "paint" program, than a photo manipulation program.
Any other suggestions? -
So ive installed paint.net and the clone stamp just really isnt working out. in fact its terrible.
Can anyone tell me if the GIMP has a spot healing brush that works just like the one in photoshop? I might be willing to give the GIMP a second try, but only if it has this feature.
Thanks -
Even though it costs money, I've actually found Fireworks to be quite handy while doing simple tasks.
-
Hmm, ill look at fireworks, but id really prefer freeware.
Ive been all over the Gimp site, and cant seem to find that specific tool anywhere, i dont know what its called in the GIMP. Anyone who uses it? Anyone? -
I searched for "gimp heal brush" on Google, and about the 4th result down was this. Don't look at a specific site, use Google. It's how open source tends to work, it's community documentation.
-
Depends what exactly you are trying to do, I have found the Smudge tool to do basically what I understand Spotheal to do, I just smudge around the area of the spot and voila, fixed.
-
I don't think GIMP (or any other freeware) has a tool like PS' healing brush or spot heal.
So unfortunately you'll either have to use photoshop, or get better at using a combination of clone stamp, smudge, and whatever else to achieve the same effect. -
fantastic! thanks!
Guess ill google more rather than going straight to the source.
Ill try to stick with GIMP this time, force myself to figure it out. -
mattireland It used to be the iLand..
How about GIMP.
You can even put it on your memory stick and carry it around with you if you download it from http://www.portableapps.com
