Whenever I have active window and double click on an icon which is situated on shown area of desktop it doesn't launch it. I need to click 3 times to launch it like 1 time for making desktop active and another 2 times to launch shortcut or document.

Hmm, let me show you what I mean. This is how it works on Windows 7. And Exactly how I want to be on the Windows 8. I have already used 2 mouses. Are you totally sure that you don't need to click 3 times on your Windows 8 because I have 2 laptops acting the same.

Watching that video, in that situation, it takes two clicks, not three, to open that file. This is on a Vaio Duo 11 running Win8.1 with a Logitech mouse.

never had this issue either. maybe adjust double-click speed in mouse settings...? did you fresh install W8? if so, was it like this from the beginning or did it just start happening all of sudden?

Thanks for feedback. Looks like there must be a way to fix it cause it's wrong. Does anyone of you use ClassicShell? Because it is on both laptops. 1 of which is my sister's and is like half a year old and 2-nd is mine with fresh couple days old 8.1 but I have already installed and configured it at full.

One of my mouses has doubleclick button but even when I use it I still can't open folder or launch anything. Strange is that whenever I double click on name area it understands that I clicked 2 times because I can edit shortcut's name.
I will try to figure it out but doubt that will go deep into it. Will see. So far ClassicShell is one of the possible reasons for me or just a bug.

I don't have ClassicShell or any other third-party UI modifications on either of my Win8.1 machines. It's certainly something to look into as one possible culprit.

No third party UI on an elitebook 2760p and not seeing the behavior you're describing either.

Did it start when you upgraded to 8.1? Maybe they need to patch the UI mod for 8.1.

For comparison, the single highest-regarded launcher for Android is Nova Launcher. It's fantastic; it's not a bad mod or an amateurish job overall in any way. KitKat just started to roll out, and the Moto X was the first non-Nexus device to get it. And you know what? Installing KitKat on a phone running Nova Launcher breaks the dialler. It's easy enough to fix, but you need to manually do it or else you can't make voice calls. I'm sure it will be fixed soon, but it was an issue when we upgraded her phone. This may be something similar.

There is a setting in Windows 8 to "Animate controls and elements inside windows", which is known to cause this type of issue in some cases. I would try to unselect this setting. I believe you find it in My Computer properties, try to find advanced system settings - performance menu - visual effects.

Thanks IronSheik, it was worth to try. Unfortunately it didn't help though.

Here is what happens on my Windows 8.1. Doubleclick works properly when I launch smth not on desktop. I mean if I have 2 windows opened and I make 1-st active and then launch smth from the second window.
Also it works for desktop only in 1 condition. I should select name change, then make active any other window and then doubleclick that icon I tried to change name. All other ways are unsuccessful.

Here is short video of what is going on. This is Windows 8.1 by the way, don't be fooled with Windows 7 picture and Start Orb button.

All basic troubleshooting stuff was already made like resetting default settings to ClassicShell and then uninstall it, or disable all visual effects. I will try to boot windows in Safe Mode just of curious though.

EDIT: Heck, it works fine under Safe mode! Will have a rest on Windows 7 for now. Maybe start looking for the problem on the 1-st January.

Happy New Year, People! Happy New Year!

If it works fine on Safe Mode, the problem isn't mouse settings or Win8.1 itself, but some third-party software or other. Maybe ClassicShell, maybe something else. Why not uninstall ClassicShell and try then? If that's the culprit, using a different UI mod (or tweaking vanilla Win8.1 as described in the second link in my signature) might solve the issue.

What if you single click to select it, then hit enter to run it? Is the charms bar open when you first try to click on it? Try looking at the startup tab under task manager...

I also do not use any 3rd party UI programs, as Win 8.1 works fine for me after I did some research and set it up the way I like. I only have to click three times when the charms bar is open, or something like that has popped open.

Darn! I found a problem and I didn't even expect that it gonna be so simple. I decided to disable autostart programs in Device manager without even touching services and bang! It worked! Doubleclick works flawlessly and immediately! So after couple reboots later I isolated troubled program and I am shocked that it was causing it because I really hoped that the problem gonna be in smth else.

This program is Punto Switcher. It detects if you write total mess and changes the typing language on the fly including the part of messed word which you already written in the wrong language. That is how I simply type in English and in Russia while never switching language.

Sorry, Windows 8.1. This exact time I was angry on you without your fault. However it is your fault that you made me think that every trouble is caused by you. Windows 8.1 creators are out of this world for sure anyway.

BTW. Have no problem with Punto on Windows 7.

That's crazy reasoning. The problem was Punto Switcher. Period.
