a co-worker recommended CCleaner, has anyone used it?

i need to uninstall any and all traces of programs that were used by my ATI TV Tuner USB 2.0.

i forgot to mention this...if a registry cleaner doesn't do the job i'm going to have to reformat anyway. so i'll accept a little risk (such as this Advanced Options tab fdlazarte mentioned)

You can use RegScrubXP for basic registry cleaning. It's very safe, and doesn't just randomly delete keys. CCleaner is good for getting rid of the files that accumulate when using regular programs. It also has a startup and program manager for getting rid of programs you don't want.

If you are trying to get rid of a driver to reinstall you can use Driver Cleaner Pro. That allows you to remove ALL traces of drivers to ensure that new ones work correctly the first time. READ ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE USING.

For programs, just use the Add/Remove programs feature, then run RegScrubXP, then defrag, and you should be set.

Get CCleaner too, it integrates with the Explorer shell, so you can run it like you would normally empty the recycle bin...without even opening the program.

i downloaded all of these utilities that have been mentioned in the thread. it looks like they might just might do the trick of cleaning out all this.

the TV tuner uses ATI MMC, and I would like to clean ATI CCC as well...which is exactly what these will be able to do.

if anyone else has something, please feel free to add still. i'm hoping to get the ATI TV Tuner working, but i'm not holding my breath. mainly, i would like to get this system back up to the speed it was at three days ago.

well...thanks for the help everyone. turns out that I was able to reinstall all the software properly, however the TV tuner still would not work.

since it stopped transmitting video a few days ago, and now doesn't even work, I assume that this device is defective. the TV tuner has been the worst, most horribly designed, piece of hardware and software that has never provided me with any usefulness...other than the one day a week I could actually get it working.

i thought my problems were fixed with my new machine, however it wasn't.

    just avoid ATI TV Tuners...
