Method 1:
Download and install ScreenHunter 5.1 Free
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Method 2:
1) Click the " Print Screen" button on the keyboard.
2) Open MS Paint, you can do so by clicking START > RUN > then type mspaint
3) Once you have MS Paint open, press CTRL + V on your keyboard.
4) your screen is now captured as an image, just click FILE > SAVE AS > JPEG
last but not least, if you want to crop the image easily later one.......you can do so easily by using Microsoft Picture Manager -
Instead of using the Paste technique which is quite troublesome when you want to take multiple screenshots while playing, fraps was a screenshot feature so does xfire. (the two programs i use
)

Hey comrade,
What exactly do you need to capture on your screen? Video or just images?
Here are a few you can checkout:
For video:
CamStudio
-Open Source screen capturing software. Outputs to AVI or streaming flash (SWF).
Free Screen Video Capture 1.1.7
-Also outputs to AVI and you can choose the output video's compressor (such as Microsoft Video 1, MPEG-4, DivX), quality, framerate; the audio's format (such as PCM, ADPCM, MP3, OGG), and volume.
Freez Screen Video Capture
-Practically the same features as the rest.
Image Capture:
ScreenHunter 5.1 Free Version
-Check the chart on the bottom though for the free version limitations.
Snippy
-Works only with XP and puts an easy-access toolbar icon. I believe this is free as well.
Gadwin Printscreen
-Also comes with a free license and works with XP.
Happy screen capturing! -
I had XP Home, and screenshot worked. If you are screenshotting not in games, just use the Print Screen method. If you need to screenshot in a game, I recommend Fraps.

But seriously - almost every windows (except the old ones) have a screenshot feature. But if you don't want to keep on pressing Print Screen, minimizing the game, pasting the screenshot in paint and saving you should use the software in this thread, as most of them directly save them into a JPG/PNG/whatever file. -
I use Gadwin on both Vista and XP.
Works perfectly.

Hey comrade,
If you're looking for that can click and drag or pen-mark an area (like the Screen Clipping feature in MS Office 2007), you should try out Snippy. I'm not sure if Gadwin would be able to do that function.
If you're also curious...
"When Snippy captures a screen region, it is saved as a temporary file which is recycled later. If you are pasting multiple cut-out regions into a single email or document, Snippy may eventually start to re-use the files before you have had a chance to save the document. In general you won't run into this problem unless you have more than 16 cut-out regions in a single email. Note that this applies only when you are copying multiple cut-outs to a single email or document; if you send out several emails in a row, each with 4 or 5 cut-outs, it will work just fine." -
