Hi i need a sound recorder for XP. I don't mind to pay up to £20 for this software. I am looking for a quality product. I must be able to tape 2 hour blocks at a time. I would prefer it to be pretty small like the one you get in Vista.

What do some of you recommend for me?

    Thanks

Audacity here too, I used it recently to put an audio tape to cd, very easy to use.

I have used Audacity for recording some fairly long Oral History interviews. Should work for what you need.

Are there any others? Like i said i don't mind paying if the software is very good and easy to use.

I tried the audacity software and it is pretty good. For some reason when i stopped recording it was not instantly saving what i recorded. I probably did something wrong and need to sort out my settings.

Audacity was paid-for software originally and it's pretty sophisticated; I don't think you'd get anything better without spending serious money.

I don't have it on this machine, but there are options to save your project and your recording as WAV, OGG, MP3 etc in the quality of your choice.

I use either Audacity or AIMP2, which also is my music player.

Audacity, bar none. A great piece of software. I just transferred a bunch of Vinyl to MP3 format and used the noise filter to get rid of the surface noise. It did an amazing job.

I took for granted that my laptop my TX5XN/B would have a built in microphone but now i'm not even sure.
There are some good guides on Youtube how to use the audiacity software.

Just for audio stuff i like the simplicity of the built in sound recorder that you get in Vista as well though.

Audiacity is better then Vista's software though for sure, it is more professional.

You can try FlexiMusic Audio Editor and Recorder, it makes a complete recording studio of your computer. I have made better tunes and recorded vocals in good quality with this software.

For recording voice with a microphone consider MP3 DirectCut. Very simple to use and allows you to cut the file into pieces if needed. Obviously, from the name, the output file(s) will be MP3.

How does it compare to Audacity? I am always on the lookout for good editing/recording software.
