I'm trying to record some videos that will be playing on my computer. What's the best video screen capture program I can get? What do you guys recommend? Thanks!

Edit: I tried CamStudio so far and the function is what I need but the result isn't so hot. The colors and frames are just off. Any better programs out there?

    ^ What he said.

Only downside, hope you got a lot of space on your HD. FRAPS saves the video files VERY large.

Yup got plenty of space. I thought FRAPS was for gaming only? Any downside besides the large space requirement?

You can use FRAPS for just about anything.

What is it you plan to record? I have used FRAPS from recording games to desktop/internet.

And other than the space, there isn't really any problems that I have come across.

Hmm I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what but it's not letting me record the video that I want. I played an AVI file on my laptop and it recorded that just fine but the video that I really need to record plays in a browser in flash format and when I hit F9, FRAPS doesn't pick it up.

Now that is something I have never tried. Maybe FRAPS has something built in that doesn't allow it to record other videos that are not on the PC itself?

Yeah that's what it looks like. It only sees actual movie formats and doesn't capture the entire screen like I need. Otherwise it works great!

    Hmm any other suggestions?

Camtasia is a good one. Plus it has editing software with it.

Not many others that I have used that work well. Could give it a shot and see.

Thank you so much! Gonna try it out now.

By the way, is there any way for this company to know that I'm recording their videos on my laptop this way? Kinda paranoid about that.

I don't think there is. At least I have never come across anyone claiming so.

    What's wrong with CamStudio?

It does look rubbish by default, but you can change the codec settings. I used to use DivX I think, and quality was good with a small filesize
