I need a calender app (free and standalone would be best) to connect to google calender. all it needs to do is update the calender and print the calender out. i have googled it but everyone it comes up with is ether outlook, or the thunderbird + addon.

    thanks

Have you looked at Mozilla Sunbird? It's the standalone calendar application from which Lightning (the Thunderbird calendar project) was built. You will still need to add the Provider for Google Calendar addon to pull in Google Calendar info.

Is there a reason why the web interface and printing function of Google Calendar aren't sufficient? Any application which connects with Google Calendar will require a live internet connection, so running calendar software for that sole purpose seems a bit inefficient/redundant (especially since you've eschewed Outlook, Thunderbird and thus PIMs at large). I'm not criticizing your request, just merely curious. :)

well i am setting up a website for my grandparents business and they do bus trips so i wanted to list the trip on a calender in side the website using Google web cal app but they also print it out and send it and the Google cal printing option spits out a calender that does not show every thing in it. so ya thats why i needed a stand alone.

    Thanks
