I am running Windows XP Pro. Need a (preferably free) program which will run beneath XP and allow me to control my laptop's fan speed.

I realize SpeedFan is one obvious choice for this. Just downloaded and tried the latest version but it does not support my laptop MOBO. Laptop is Compaq F500 series.

Is there any way to get a handle on fan speed with software, or am I gonna have to tear this laptop apart and cut a couple of wires?

BTW, the (standard) BIOS is no help at all. Compaq has issued an updated BIOS which runs the fan at low speed all the time, but that's not what I want.
