My laptop screen has back light bleed which ruins video playback.
If I set my brightness low the blacks look deep enough, but the bright scenes look too dim, and if I set the brightness too high, bright scenes look good, but dark scenes look grey.
I recently discovered a feature called display power saving technology in the intel control panel. This acts an dynamic contrast and it does exactly what I want, it subtly dims the screen for dark scenes and brightens it for bright scenes and it works very well.
Theres only one problem though. I can only enable display power saving technology when it's on battery, there is no option to select it when it's plugged in.
Is there an updated Intel control panel I can install or anything that has this option enabled?

Have you tried calibrating your display, the software below does quite a good job, it takes a while to get it right, run it as administrator.

I've already calibrated the display to make the blacks as dark as it will let me.
What I'm wanting is a dynamic contrast feature to lower/increase the brightness automatically when required. The Intel display power saving technology is the only thing I've found that does this. I just need it work when it's plugged in as I never use it on battery. -

Does the Adaptive Contrast feature work for your needs? Otherwise, I don't think there is a way to unlock the feature you're inquiring about, as it's implemented specifically for battery preservation.

Adaptive Contrast isn't what I need. I'll have to try some other way.
