I have a Dell latitude D610. I am planning to sale it, but I want to whipe everything off it 100% before selling. want to make sure no files can be accessed again. But would like to sale it brand new, like how it was when you 1st turn it on with windows xp pro so I can get more out of it.

I dont have the recovery disk for it. and I searched for recover media on XP but cannot find it.

The sticker underneath the laptop still has the prdoduct key # for windows xp pro32.

What are my best options or what can I do to make a recovery disc ?

Whats most important is that I whipe everything off 100% and files cannot be pulled ever again.

If someone else has a windows xp pro disc can I install it and use the license key thats on the sticker of the laptop ?

    Download

Darik's Boot And Nuke | Hard Drive Disk Wipe and Data Clearing

Burn the image (use an iso burner, do not copy the ISO file to the cd)

Run it, it will wipe the drive out so data is unrecoverable

Use someone's XP PRO disc to start an install. When the install starts, choose to format the partition (two choices, use the normal format, not the quick format). Install Windows XP.

Copy the WindowsXP cd and give it to the new owner.

will it whipe the drives on both accounts ? one of the accounts I cannot access because I do not have the password. I think it might be the administrative one.

And If I whipe the drive 1st how will i pull up the recovery partition ?

It will wipe out the entire harddrive so there are no accounts. No OS either. There will be no recovery partition. You will not need it. Just install Windows XP from an original windows disk and forget the recovery parition.

ok il try it that way, guessing the license key works with any windows XP pro then. not just the one that came installed with the computer.

With Windows XP that statement is not true. There are two types of Windows XP discs, retail and OEM. The key on the bottom of your laptop will work with the OEM version of PRO but not the retail. Microsoft might be able to help you out or you could probably order a recovery disc directly from Dell for your pc model.
