    Here's the story:

My friend downloaded IE7 Beta and WMP 11 Beta. Windows media player works fine for him, but he noticed IE7 would freeze, and he wanted to go back to IE6. So he uninstalled IE7 from his comp (first error) which affected his entire computer. To repair the issue he used his dell OS reinstall disk to repair the Windows XP Pro OS.

After that he had IE6 back, but it won't work. He tried to download and install IE6 from microsoft's site, but it said he had a newer version already installed. He ran Ccleaner to clean the registry, and add/remove programs doesn't detect IE7. So now he's stuck without IE at all.

He wants to know if there is any way to fix internet explorer and get it back to IE6.

How exactly did he uninstall IE7 in the first place? Has he tried re-installing IE7 and then removing it again? Perhaps IE7 will work fine the second time.

    *corrections*
Windows explorer was freezing and a friend suggested that the root of the issue may have been IE7 beta. He went to add/remove programs and tried to remove IE7. The uninstall process froze and he restarted the computer. At that point when he opened IE, the version was listed as 7 but the interface was IE6 and it was not working. No links (favorites or history) could be clicked and he could not enter anything into the address bar. He then restarted and windows explorer would not run so his desktop wouldn't load. He used the XP Pro reinstall cd that came with the laptop and told it to repair windows. Now explorer.exe is running again but there are still issues with IE6. Whenever he clicks a link a second window pops up but never loads. When he tried redownloading IE6 from the microsoft website it said the computer was already running a newer version and would not install.

Does WE freeze as soon as it's opened? I think one of the guys I work with ran into an issue like this, I'll have to ask him when I see him at work next?
