Look I have a Dell laptop insprion b130, has windows xp on it, well Dell gave me all the disk to reinstall the windows on it but appears disk is no good. When i go to reinstall it will set everything up and when it goes to install it give me a fatal error message cyclic reduntacy check. Well I called Dell they did a hard drive check and it was good so they agree disk is probably bad. Well they want monies to help fix, so since there is no operating system on there now can I just go out and buy vista or 7 and install it on here? I stuck at starting up windows xp installation screen now...

    Any helpmbe great.

    Thanks

So I don't really need the Dell operating system disk then. So if I wanted I could go buy windows xp and just put it on then?

    yes

and you have a sticker with a window XP activation code somewhere on the machine so you could just get any CD XP home with the same SP revision and install it without using the code so you could borrow it from a friend as long as you use your code

if not then just buy a new one

If you have access to a working machine, download an image from internet(Torrents, eMule, Rapidshare, etc), burn it and install it with the key of your notebook.
If you can't find any, ask me and I will upload an image on a free filesharing hoster. Can anyone tell me one?
This the German version, sorry to tell.

I think the HDD is dead as you got CRC. Try to boot the Install CD and before installing do a chkdsk /F or format /F for the primary partition.

Got it going. Burned disk as image instead of data. And bingo. Thanks all
