Hey I got a bunch of questions because I have been “thinking” again. I would like to get some info on some topics I am curious about. I have been typing them into a word file as they come up since I keep forgetting them before I get a chance to post ^^…blasted memory -_- So here we go and I got links to the other topics below.
4.) Alright…..virtual machines. I know nothing and I got several questions on these.
1.) If you run a virtual machine and connect through it to a wifi network what do they see? Do they see the virtual machine or your actual machine? Also when you connect to a network with either main or virtual machine what do they see? Username? MAC address? Ip? Anything else? Networking isn’t my strong point nor are virtual machines (know of the concept and that’s it ^^). I know all the basics to get by with networking and such for personal use and setting up networks but not the nitty gritty details of how everything works and who sees what and such.
2.) Is it technically possible to run a virtual machine of android on a computer (win7 and/or Linux?) Could you run an android phone on your computer if you let’s say have a cell phone antenna connected to it/built in? I am asking if it can be done and not if it is currently possible. There is a potential practical use for this. So please spare and humor me and don’t troll.
3. You know how in windows 7 you can slide a window to a side and it goes to half a screen but when there are 2 or more screens the side with a screen next to it won’t do that anymore because the content moves to the next screen. Also in games your mouse will move to the other window (RCT3 is one off the top of my head). Does this happen with virtual machines? How does that work? Can you somehow lock each window on a computer as an independent screen? So you can keep your mouse and content from going across? Let’s say you got two mice or a mouse and touch screen. If you use regular windows (no VM) is there away to use both at once without one minimizing? For an example, you have a video on screen two and Saints Row 3 on main screen. You touch the pause button and SR3 minimizes or windows. Can you get around that? If you did the same thing in windows with using windows and a virtual machine would that work? If it currently doesn’t is that something that could be designed or is that impossible?
On a side note, I remember the intel x86 ship that ran android and iOS so would it be much different to emulator/run android in windows or something?
As always I appreciate the advice!

1. Depends on how you'll setup your virtual machine network.
You can have it so you're using the host machine's ip address (like creating a separate network between your vm and host)
Or
You can assign it your own ip address so it will act like a 2nd pc.
2. Never heard of a stand alone vm for android, however an emulator should work the same way as your description and just requires an sdk
3. Once inside the vm, mouse and keyboard only works on that environment until you press the escape function (ctrl+alt) in most cases.

2) I believe that the Android SDK software provides an Android emulator. Though I have no idea if it has cellular capabilities.
3) Only one OS can control computer hardware at any one time, so the mouse and keyboard are "locked" inside the VM until you press some sort of escape sequence to get back to the native OS (in VMWare, it's Ctrl + Alt). -

To clarify 1. I ment if you connect to let us say a schools WiFi network. What info does the school see.
Also is it possible to have windows designed to support multiple inputs? Like one person can use a touch screen and another can use keyboard and mouse? I don't see why that would not be possible. Or u can use android on a screen and use windows on a second screen simultaneously.
Thanks for the help guys. Again I appreciate it and I am looking for is it currently possible and if not is it theoretically possible -

You can use multiple inputs, although I'm not sure if you'll run into driver/resource conflicts if using multiple HID/input devices on the USB bus. And as far as different operating systems on different screens go, you should be able to manage this by using VMware and having the desktop extended across two monitors (as opposed to it being mirrored/duplicated), and have the window the virtual machine is open in placed on one of two monitors.
Hope this helps! -

so if you use a VM to connect to a wireless network they see your actual computer name and such and not the VM name? Asking because i am curious about "masking" your use on a school network/any network is possible with let us say a usb wifi dongle and a VM?
-
Well it's possible, it will appear that there are 2 computers connected on the router of your school 1 as your host and the other the vm guest.
it will have it's own mac address and ip address.
this is the same concept how one could port forward to a vm's ip address instead of the host's ip address (using vmware this is called a virtual network) however it will show as a vmware network adapter.
it would be easier if you could give a more detailed information on how you want to utilize the vm, because there are just so many different ways it can be configured.
for instance you want a different input device to control your VM while you're using your laptop, this can be setup as a headless VM and your "client" can remote desktop to the guest OS to work around the VM while you're on the Host OS.
then there are also methods to replicate mouse movements etc... used for gaming to control multiple characters at the same time with a single input device. -

basically, what i want to do is use a USB wifi dongle and a WM to connect to a network so all they see is the usb dongle mac address and my VM. I want to do this so no one can track my usage/connections.

The VM and WiFi dongle will not mask your IP and MAC addresses. You will need a proxy or some other software to do that, although I'm left scratching my head as to how to set that up alongside using a VM. I've only done it through web browsers' configuration and in uTorrent.

doesn't a wifi dongle.....nm i see the confusing here. What i am asking is using a VM and wifi dongle can you use the two to access a network like you would normally using your laptop? I want to mask my actual computer wifi cards MAC address and my computers actual user name. Check this out:
Network: "none of your business"
Computer is named "HopelesslyFaithful"
MAC address "543GH:36FG:GG:46:EH46" or whatever it looks like
VM is named "I am AI"
VM wifi dongle MAC address is "46HG:HG:46:H4GH"
connect to network "none of your business"
and they see:
"I am AI"
"46HG:HG:46:H4GH"
and not :
"HopelesslyFaithful"
"543GH:36FG:GG:46:EH46"
Can you do that?
I am trying to understand when you connect to a network what can they actually see from you that is linkable and is there a way to access it and hide it. If you connect to a public wifi at McDonald's or something what do they see and what can you do to either hide it or change it to show "temp info" or easily thrown away. I can't just throw out my wifi card in my laptop or the username but i can change a VM easily...right? and i can through out a wifi dongle with easy.
