I want to format my hard drive and reload windows, but I need to copy 2 partitions first which totals about 70 gigs. of data. How would you suggest I do this. I have tried a ton of different drive back up software, but none of them end up working. After the programs work for hours and hours at some point it ends up saying something like it cant complete the task, or crash or say something like can continue because some file is locked or something and I dont have many dvd-rw discs so I usually end up waisting a bunch of dvd's. I tried to zip or rar the files but that will take for ever and it doesnt even come close to compressing them enough. I would appreciate your suggestions on some super easy to use and fast software that I can depend on that is not going to require a ton of dvd's. I connect to the net by tethering to my cell phone so I doubt online storage is an option. And sometimes vista does some whacky stuff when I reload the o.s. and I dont feel safe in just saving everything on a seperate partition.
And one more question I have is..
I used to use a dell laptop and I was running xp on there. Well I decided to try and copy everything on that hard drive. I can not remember what program that I used to do it because it was so long ago. I think it was Nero back it up, but I am not sure. All I know is that it created 3 .dat files
Well before the dell died, I copied the .dat files to my new laptop which is running vista. All I want to do is find a way to go back into those backups and see what all I have stored on there and grab some pics, music and that kind of stuff. I dont want to totally restore everything, not that I would have any success in doing that anyway. I have also tried so many different programs to get into these files and I tried making boot disks and all that but I cant figure it out.Obiously the folders and location that the files are stored on my new computer are on drives or partitions with totally different drive letters and folder names.
Thanks all.
