Hey guys Im trying to help a friend fix their desktop. I have a xp key which is on the side of the computer, but Im not sure how to make a xp installation disk, Ive tried googling it but havent found a conclusive way.

Im trying to do it from my desktop computer that is running Windows 8 if that matters. Not sure Thanks. So in short I just need a windows xp dvd installation disk I have the code already but no install disk. Thx

I don't think it matters that you are running Win 8, the problem is XP is generally not leagally available for download. If you could find someone with a genuine CD (not one branded for a certain manuf.) that may work with your key .
Do you have a recovery CD for the XP box?
I have never tried this but it may be worth a shot http://www.wikihow.com/Reinstall-Windows-XP-Without-the-CD

Generally speaking, using an OEM key but installing from a retail disk will work. The only caveat is that you would have to call MS to activate. Just answer the robot that you're only installing Windows on one computer, input the key it gives you, and you should be good to go.

If somehow you get hold of an .iso file; [we can not discuss how to get one ;) in this forum], you can certainly create the CD from win 8. I would suggest when you burn it to use the lowest speed possible with your burning software, this may head off issues with being able to read it on the XP box.
