My parents Toshiba M30 laptop is giving me some blue screen of death with a "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" error. I want to try and reinstall XP on it to see if this fixed any issues (and speeds the old thing up).

But they don't have an original XP installation CD anywhere. I have the key on the back of the laptop, but was wondering where I can download a bootable file onto a CD? It doesn't appear this laptop allows one to boot from USB, so has to be a CD ....

    Thanks!

It`s a pity there are no legal downloads for Xp , like we have for Vista and Win 7 that we have on NBR.

Well since you have a legal key, if you cannot borrow a copy of Xp , you can download one using a p2p like utorrent or similiar , but be warrned torrents can contain malware.

Just google for "windows xp sp3 torrent"

Well, found the install disc. Installed XP, it took me to the setup pages, inputted the regions, user names, etc., then it rebooted, and poof, back to that same blue screen of death with the same error message!

Even bought a 1gb stick of PC2700 ram thinking maybe it was corrupt ram, but nothing. Same error (tried both RAM bays).

Could it be an issue with the hard drive?? Would be odd, given it boots fine up to the setup pages (after pulling out the CD disc), but then on reboot gives that strange error.

Guess I should try the Toshiba forums, not sure if this is a laptop issue or an issue with XP, or something altogether different.

    Ultimate Boot CD - Overview

Run memorytest and hdd tests. If memtest86+ fails even with new ram, it could actually mean faulty motherboard or cpu. HDD tests are pretty self-explanatory, they either pass or fail.

Could be the HDD, could be the Graphics Card, could be anything really. If you download and use what KLF said, you may be able to pin-point whats causing the problem.
