I've got an asus w3j with a 1.83 GHZ cpu that I want to be able to underclock to about 25% cpu while plugged into AC. I can do this with power4gear but only on battery mode and it comes out to be 365 MHz or something like that. I want to do this because I sometimes leave my computer on at night and it definately doesn't need to be running full speed. Being at 25% keeps the temps down and doesnt make the computer work too hard.

I can apparently make the processor ~997 MHz when in quiet office mode in power4 gear but I want to be able to get 25%.

Does anybody know of a good program besides NHC, RMClock, and power4 gear (I have tried these all and they don't fully work)?. I can throttle the cpu with RMclock but that doesnt lower the frequency right off the bat, just when the cpu is working really hard. It doesn't lower the temps of the notebook.
    thanks for anybodies help
    Dan

If all you want to overclock it for is long nights then just turn on stand by... and make it so it cuts off your hard drive after a certain amount of time.

your cpu underclocks on it's own. it doesn't run at 1.83 most of the time, in fact it probably hits 1.83 very very very rarely. there's no great need to underclock a "mobile" cpu. now, if you're talking about undervolting, that's a different story.

You can adjust the clock speeds in P4Gear for both the battery and AC modes if you disable auto-performance and then you can individually configure each component that P4G controls. See here in this thread for how to do that. You should then be able to set the cpu speed for all of the AC modes individually.

Ive tried to do that with power4 gear but it doesnt let me actually set the speeds.

Right. You can't assign individual speeds anywhere in P4G, but by setting the % to 25 in AC mode the freq should go down the same way it's dropping for you at 25% on battery, I think. Be sure to turn off auto-performance to gain the ability to edit things in P4G.

According to my processor also a 1.83Ghz Core Duo but on a Sony, it runs at 1.00Ghz at normal times and goes to 1.83 during high loads such as gaming.

thats kindof the problem actually- p4g doesnt allow me to switch the speeds while plugged in- no matter what I try. Well I think it allows me to go down to 1.0Ghz but I thinki that is just the default speedstep of windows. I want to be able to go down to 25%.
