Like how basic? what are the limitations?

    can it burn ISOs?

can it convert WMV or AVI into DVD format like Nero Vision Express can?

and to sum this all up.........do u recommend it?

or do u think i'd rather just keep using Ashampoo Burning Studio

Its only a POS if it doesn't do those well. It's not a full fledged burning suite, that's what the full Nero is for.

I thought IMGburn was just for burning images?

what about audio cds? video cds? on the fly conversion of video files to VCD or DVD format?

IMGburn burnsimages, files, rips unprotected DVDs, makes files into images, and maybe something else I'm forgetting. It's the best tool I've found.

but it can't be an all in one burning solution like nero.....it misses the features of audio cd burning and video cd/dvd creation

Nero Vision....for impressive high quality DVDs for clients in with no effort.

Of course Encore is better for those things but something you want something quick and still looks good.

Are you unhappy with Burning Studio or are you just looking to try something new? In my opinion Burning Studio (even the Free edition) is better than Nero 9 Free and has more features. If Burning Studio does everything you want then why not stick with it?
