I just checked Filehippo and it would appear Nero have made a freeware version of their software, I was a fan of their software for a very long time but it got very bloated... so I turned away from it.
This version is less than 60 megs and am wondering if anyone else knows if this is good or adware or bloated, etc... I want a good suite and I am praying this could be it

A thread on Neowin says it is very stripped down and that alternatives like Imgburn and CDBurnerXP are better and lighter.

ImgBurn for the win. And Nero is evil. My desktop shop decided it was a great idea to load my computer with a few-gig Nero package. The uninstaller fails whenever I try and get rid of it.

    ^+2.
    +1 for ImgBurn.
    +1 for avoiding Nero.
It's about as big as an OS. Ridiculous.

And it thinks it makes a great image viewer and sets itself as default for a bunch of image files. Mind you, not disk images.

Nero is still very good , but it`s not cheap, this free version is a waste of time.

Well, I've got Nero 8 and overal, while there are some features that I don't need, which I thus didn't instal, itsa good programme for me.

I started on version 6, had an express version or so that came with an external CD/DVD drive of 7 then bought 8 for my Vaio.

So maybe the more recent ones got that bloated?

I have to agree though that the pogramme is pretty large - but i has a lot of tools - drive speed etc. ...but still... I suppose smaller would be better...

heh. i have anydvd for drivespeed (and much other, not to discuss things in here). small and perfect.

other than that, no burning software needed. data disks get burned with explorer, music disks with itunes or media player. dvd's with help of movie maker and dvd maker, or just as data.

isos get burned with isoburner, odr how ever it's called. again, tiny. but i do this once every two years or so.

all in all, i life diskless and happy, and, for the occasional burning, the given tools from windows and slysoft are more than good enough, and all tiny.

I've been using Nero Lite for years now with no issues.
