should it take over 3 hours to back up My Documents folder? Theres a total of 10.30 GB's, It's been 3 hours 55 minutes so far and it's only 33% done. Is that normal? My dvd burner is like 8X or something like that.

Not normal. 8X should burn in around 20 minutes provided it likes the media. I did have a problem with poor quality burns which were then taking hours to verify (does Nero backup include verification?).

Most likely is the media. Use Verbatim or TY if you expect to keep the backup...

my burn times were ridiculously slow when my burner dropped into PMI mode. I know how to change it back but I could not explain it.

This Microsoft KB article is only a few months old, which suggests that they buried an improvement in an update which actually makes things worse.

I went through this problem a couple of months ago. Poor burns meant that timeouts occurred during verification and the interface dropped into PIO mode. The ODD was a TS-L632M and this happened with several types of media. After correspondence with Samsung ODD support I eventually got a replacement (same model) which has had no problems with the same media. However, a firmware update, if available, mayimprove media compatibility.

Question for Robert in Sadorus: Is your IDE channel now in PIO mode? (Look in Device Manager).

I'll have to check that, It took 23 freakin hours to back up 10.35 GB of info, but only 16 minutes to restore the back up.
