Hi all, just got a Netbook for Christmas (Samsung N140) and I've just done a clean install of Windows 7 Professional so I have a few questions to ask.
What AV would be better to use for a netbook so it doesn't use as much resources as possible?
Also can anyone recommend any tweaks for Win 7 and things to do when installing for the first time which will optimize the notebook.
Thanks very much

Just put Windows on my daughter's new netbook. Using MSE, runs well, bit slow on a full scan, but light and unobtrusive on normal operations. For tweaks, upgrade to 2GB ram. Windows 7 itself is tweaked right out of the box, nothing else to do. Some will recommend turn off aero, with the 2GB ram and 256 on the GMA Card so far works nicely.

I would have to suggest Avira as I find it appears nonexistant to system resources and scans my HDD in approx. 15 ~ 20 mins. or so. The only gripe for me with Avira is the Ads that pop up from time to time. But other than that it is extremely easy to use. Simply update and scan! ...doing this w/ out hogging any resource whatsoever.
For tweaking, as the poster above mentioned....just upgrade to 2GB of mem. if you can. Best tweak ever! {well geting an SSD is...but 7 Pro is fine out-the-box IMO.} -
I've been using Avast on my laptop for a while...
Anyway, it will run fine, my friend is running it with Aero on his Acer Aspire One, and it's rather smooth.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'd also get 2GB of RAM. Although it may be difficult to upgrade it to that on a netbook. -

i like MSE, very low on resources.
i apply no tweaks except turning off system restore, as i have my windows home server handling it.
