I just got my Asus M50Vm-B1 and it has a recovery partion and a recovery DVD, also a seperate driver/utility DVD.
i plan to do a fresh install of vista64 Ultimate, now this is my first time using a notebook with this recovery partition so i am trying to figure out exactly how it works, if i delete it will it ruin the warranty?
i take it if i have a recovery/driver dvd i don't need to worry about the recovery partition and making my own recovery/driver cd, but if i was to later reinstall with the recovery DVD would that recreate the recovery partition if i needed to send it in for warranty?

You can delete it unless you NEED the extra space. And deleting it will not void the warranty. Reinstalling using the recovery partition(press F9 at the ASUS splashscreen) will be faster as the recovery data is on the hdd as opposed to the recovery DVD. And reinstalling using the recovery DVD will not recreate the recovery partition

If you're going to install a fresh copy of Vista Ultimate 64 then you cannot use the recovery partition anyway because it's not the original OS. So might as well recovery some space and delete the partition. On my HP recovery discs the partition is also recreated when it's re-installed but I don't know if ASUS does the same with theirs. Re-installing a recovery discs takes a long time BTW... up to 3 hours!! The warranty usually covers the hardwares and not the softwares. I found out that if you recover from a partition the original OS is fixed but the programs you've installed isn't going to be functioning. You have to re-install all the programs! Apparently when the OS is restored the associated files are no more.
