Well the "new Skype" which they have made you upgrade to last month with its so called "smart" everything in one window design which just kills is sucking up 50% more resources than the older Skype. Unfortunately for me that causes lag and for the person i talk to most it causes a jump of over 20C from her light gaming temperatures.
Are there any solutions or alternatives to Skype. Downgrading does not work. Skype will not let me sign in when I downgrade.. yes they want to push the new one that bad

Ive cut back to pidgin to save resources. Is there anything that is cut back and trimmed to basics?
I do not mind paying for software as well
EDIT: Oovoo is looking good. -
xfire is pretty low on resources but you cant use phone numbers.
-
-Use programs and features and uninstall skype. allow the deletion of personal data
-You need to select "show hidden files" in folder options C: Documents and settings-Your profile name-Application data
There shouldnt be a skype folder, however if there still is, delete it.
Purge folders
C:Temp or
C:Tmp if available
C:WindowsTemp
C:WindowsPrefetch
Download RegSeeker (freeware)
http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
Install
Go to "Search" in Regseeker
Type "Skype"
delete ALL entries regseeker was finding
Now download the version of skype you want..however download to a different location than last time. Do NOT use default location
Install Skype to a different location than last time with a different name
Do NOT use default name, use "Skype2" for example
All Skype settings (if done manually before) will be lost, however you will be able to use an older version of skype, then reboot. -
