Chrome for Linux coming
The latest version is 2.0.170.0 which is a developer update. I think its newer than this beta.

I think that Safari is getting on their nerves.
cheers ... -
I always have my browser maximized...when you do that drag tab thing, it just covers half the screen but doesn't resize the original tab to half screen.
It seems faster too. -
I'm interested in the Linux version. Google vs Mozilla? who do you think is going to come out on top in the end?
-
Supposedly fast? Mine's already fast! Chrome rocks

Cheers for links, I'll give it a try on the desktop tomorrow. seems to be a lot faster than current chrome looking at the benchmarks.
-
Chrome is already blazingly fast, mostly due to true multi-threading and JS engine improvements.
However competitors are already catching up, safari will be at the same speeds shortly, as will firefox, so chrome has to jump ahead.
As for Internet explorer.. oh well... -
i didnt liek it it wasnt fast at all and i jsut couldnt quite get the hang of it it stayed on ym computer all of 2 minutes if that
-
Please clean up your typing and your grammar. -
Ill stick to firefox.
Speed of connection is more important than speed of browser. -
Edit: This version does seem snappier than .168 did...could just be me, though...wanting it to be faster...
Double edit: No, it really is faster...they made a good thing better, apparently... -
Wow, this makes a massive difference. My Chrome was way outdated (.159) and this is easily twice as smooth.

Although, hasn't Safari been around for some years??/ -

well, stealing some features is one thing. but more or less just taking exactly the chrome layout, add some fancy uhh-apple-shinyness around it, is not exactly a feature thing. it's a full application copy. besides being a quite ugly copy
on the other hand, i start to dislike applications that span multiple processes. i like multithreaded applications, i like the security of each tab by doing processes.
what i don't like, is, if the browser messes up really bad, you may be out of luck killing it. i once got chrome span processes infinitely, resulting in an os with thousands of processes in seconds. result: forced hard reset.
same happened once in ie8 beta. result: forced hard reset. it even resulted in a non-bootable and non-repairable os in the end. had to restore from home-server-backup.
i'd like to have it with some form of process-hirarchie. so that "killing the browser window" will still kill all the processes and stop the spawning.
so i'm not entierly for those new browser designs. i prefer to be in the world where a browser is just like a pdf reader: a display for documents
(i don't like web-apps in general that much anyways.. too much taking away from our control nowadays)
but i like how everyone improves in performance. -

Speed of connection, how do you mean? -
There is NO COPYING from each other as they would use any OPEN SOURCE components they can find and cooperate, to better their product.
The race to a faster and secure browser is always on for the market share.
cheers ... -
Though Safari has all the eye candy, Chrome still does the job with nice clean (simple) graphics. I love how normal mode is like the equivalent of full screen firefox.
Google, please let us customize the top sites page more! -
The problem with Safari or Chrome, is until i have extensions, like NoScript and AdBlock Plus, than i don't care how much faster is, because faster spyware, popups and adverts are not exactly something that excites me.
In the case of google and Chrome you have to wonder if they would ever want user extensions like Adblock Plus, considering this would be somewhat of a conflict of interest for their advertising business.
Still it's good to see some speedups and performance, should keep the others pushing for similar goals. -
All I have gotten from Chrome is a simple interface, a combo search/address bar (my fav), and more screen estate when browsing. The estate is what I fell for first, as I was using a netbook with a 9 inch screen and needed all the help I could get. Then I fell for the rest of the features and the speed.
What first led me to Chrome was a distaste for Firefox, and the security issues that IE was having. (Firefox and my school's website don't get along)... -
Just take a look, tabs and buttons are all in the same place. Only difference is Apple seem to have got the tab thing all wrong. Chrome is much cleaner.
They both don't have loading bars, instead they have a circle that goes around.
Here is Safari loading...
Now Chrome loading with its blue thing
This is how they both look when opening a new tab (The feature was originally in Opera)
Apple also claims that Safari is the first browser with movable tabs
You'll find a lot more Apple BS on that page, but I like to highlight this
As far as I know, Firefox just needed an extension to do that. Once you installed that extension you'll get movable tabs. I discovered that like 3 years. The feature probably has been there longer
Chrome has the feature built in since its beta.
So, at least Safari is not first, that is for sure.
By the way, I am a Firefox user. My point is, if Microsoft did that (take a feature from Apple's OS for example, or just take features from Safari to IE), it would have been a huge deal that the whole media would take about. I don't hate Apple and I don't like Microsoft. I love good products! and hate BS.
Thank you. -

I'm still interested how google reacts about an adblock for it's own browser, made to show the web with the google-ads everywhere. they won't like that, do they?
do they want to ban it from the web, then?censuring in their own search?
it would be fun.

As Im typing this, I am currently using the new Chrome beta. Its definitly faster than before, which surprised me. I didnt think it could get any faster!

Lol im with you i am also in Chrome Beta as well. It feels quite a bit faster then firefox especially searches in anything. I notice even sites like NBA.com load faster.
-
Yeah, flash based sites load very fast, which is so important. I dont really understand the need for firefox and some of the extensions. Ad Block, for example. I never get ads that distract me at all. Guess Im lucky with the sites I frequent.
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
use adblock for a while and then go back to non-adblocked web and believe me, every page distracts and annoys you
-
-

which are blocked, too
i mostly dislike the square-ads in articles. be it anandtech articles or others. it just irritates me very much when reading.
and mostly, flash ads are (where) very demanding for my core2duo at 1.2ghz so it turned the fan on when there was one. not that fun for reading while the fan spins. -
Nice! I'm really liking Chrome. It's a fast no-nonsense browser. IE just seems to take forever to load pages and respond to requests. Of course IE is still the standard, and have to use that for things like my bank. Otherwise Chrome is my browser of choice.

NBR's video section is looking good as well.
HT my browser of choice as well
New Chrome Beta supposedly fast
