Hey all,
I just bought a new computer and was wondering if I will be able to use the same License key from my old computer. Obviously, word costs a crapton of money and I would prefer not to have to buy it all over again.
I will check with my University to see if they can give me another heavily discounted version of Word, but I don't think they can.
Thanks for any future help!

Depending on the license for the exact version of Office/Word you have installed, Word can usually be installed on more than one computer. Typical is at least two, and sometimes three computers, I believe.
-
The older the version / copy is the more likely it will install with the key you have.

Unfortunately the answer is no in this case because of the type of Office I have. If I had bought it in the first place for full price then I would probably be able to put it on two computers, but since I got it through my university, it only applies to a single computer and I will have to buy a new copy (which should still be available at the discounted price).

do you want to use word on the old system, too, or just on the new one?

If you have Office 2003 and the new Windows OS is the same type(32 or 64 bit) as before, try this if you have still access to your old system.
There is a " opa11.dat" in " C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\OFFICE\DATA" which contains the activation information. Install Office 2003 on the new computer and copy the mentioned dataset from your old to your new computer.
If you have no access to the old system just install and activate Offfice 2003. I've done this many times on various computers with different Windows(XP, 7 X32 + X64). I didn't register the Office 2003 copy only activated it via internet. -
why not save all the hassle and download - The Free and Open Productivity Suite which is free and compatable with microsoft word/xl/photoshop etc.
