So for my next computer, what shall I go for? Other than the looks, I still think Windows 7 is better performance wise and LOOK (as in UI) wise to me.

Is there anything I am missing? A new OS is supposed to bring better technology and performance but this is not the case as it seems....

I was hoping for better performance, proper DPI scaling like MacOS which doesn't break the UI of most programs that don't properly support DPI scaling but this doesn't seem as it's the case....

so what do you think honestly?

We're not going to know for sure about performance until Windows 10 hits final release (and possibly not until a few updates in). Windows 10 is almost guaranteed to have better scaling, as this is a fairly recent issue and didn't exist in 2009 when Windows 7 was released. Windows 7 may allow a bit more UI customization by default in the sense that more of the internal workings of Windows are exposed to the user, but my guess is there are or will be programs or tweaks available to make Windows 10 look just about any way you want. So I don't see that as a deciding factor.

As Windows 10 is offered as a free upgrade for a year from release, I'd recommend starting with Windows 7, then making the decision to upgrade or not when you know more about the final version of Windows 10. And when you're making the decision, I'd base it on what you CAN do with one version but CANNOT do with the other.

I will just say I have little faith in the UI, I hope to be proven wrong..........

Well, you could also dual boot. My new laptop came with Win8.1 which I hate with passion, so I added msata drive with Win7. I left Win8 untouched for now, when Win 10 comes out, I'll probably do full back up of Win 8, load Win 10 on top and see how that works. Wait a second, my laptop is actually triple boot, I forgot about 128GB memory stick with full Linux install.
I actually set up some type of dual boot on every computer I own for years, lesson learned when Win got messed up and wouldn't boot, something I could fix easily, if I had access to files, but with only 1 non working computer, I couldn't do anything but reload, never again.

Performance wise there really was hardly no difference between Windows 7 and W8. In some cases W8 was a little bit quicker than 7 and wrt Games, there really wasn't any difference at least for me. I don't expect Windows 10 to be any worse.

In fact i'll go out on a limb and say that Windows 10 will probably be the better performer over 7 or 8 only because that's been the trend since Windows 7. The OS has required less hardware to run on.

I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro on my 2007 ThinkPad T60 and it's just as fast as when it ran Windows 7.

Windows 7. Machines shipping with Windows 10 will likely have UEFI Class 3 which removes legacy BIOS support entirely and basically gives Microsoft control over what you can do with your machine.

    Look at driver support.
As for OS, choose whichever you prefer

That's the problem they still haven't listened....

That will not go well with the buying Public and Business...of which there are legacy hardware out there and that will kill any sales of Windows 10 machines. The O/S might be a different story but still forciing Metro(Tiles) onto the Start menu is a non-starter to begin with and only tells Users MS hasn't listened at all.

Legacy hardware has nothing to do with it. It just means that OSes that don't support UEFI or aren't certified by Microsoft can't be used on the machine. Like Linux, for example. Microsoft says it allows them to offer unprecedented levels of security which is fine for businesses but for home users, it takes away control of your own machine.

    WINDOWS 7.

If you pick W7 you'd get W10 for free. W10 will not give you W7 for free.
