Curios what your opinions are on this new program.
I'm not up to snuff on Defrag programs to know whether what they're advertising will actually make a difference.
Basically you can control where on the disk any file goes.

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Wow have not seen this one before. I like how the graphical representation is actually a disk. I wonder how accurate of a representation it is? I use JKDefrag myself when I want to do a thorough defrag as it seems to do all this stuff auto-magically, and very well too. It has a command line feature set similar to what this tool is claiming but i don't think it has as polished a GUI as this one. If I just want to do a quick defrag I'll use Auslogic as it is very quick. Not sure if I feel up to the task to take the time to specify which files need to be on the fastest part of the disc. I prefer the tool to do it. Nonetheless this looks like a cool tool and I am curious how it performs as well.

i use and have used Diskeeper for a number of years...although there have been software upgrades...i still prefer the version 9...if you have your drive partitioned like i do...you can defrag more than one partition at a time...plus Diskeeper will set the recommended MFT...automatically pad you drive and or partitions...creating a buffer to lessen the amount of fragmentation to your drive...my .02 cents

MORE INFORMATION
Disk Defragmenter MMC is based on the full retail version of Executive Software Diskeeper. The version that is included with Windows XP and later provides limited functionality in maintaining disk performance by defragmenting volumes that use the FAT, FAT32, or NTFS file system. -
I use DKeeper, and it stays in the background, and the system is maintain snappy.
I`ll let you guys try this one, I`m happy with DK -
so what's the performance difference between PerfectDisk and the built in Vista Defragger
-
Any Windows (XP, Vista) built-in defragmenter is not good. It defrags the data but it doesn't push it to the beginning of the disk.
I tested this by defragmenting using Windows' defragmenter and then analyzing using the same defragmenter. The data was packed together but it was spread out everywhere. No matter how many times I defragmented, it stayed the same way; organized clutter.
I compared the defragmenters to JKDefrag's. Not only did JKDefrag defragment the data, it also pushed it to the fastest end of the HDD (the outside track).
But here's the kicker; after I defragmented with JKDefrag, I decided to defrag with Windows'. Guess what? It made all the data cluttered again!
Conclusion: Windows' defragmenter defragments, but then spreads the data out all over the HDD on purpose. -
So, if I gather correctly Ark, what you're saying is that JK optimizes as well (which is this new program claims to do as well)...the only difference is you can't select which files get priority on the "beach-side real-estate" (if you catch my drift).
Ja? -
MaximumPC has defrag softwares reviewed. I personally use Auslogics and find it better than others including Vista's own defrag program.
-
oii. auslogics defrag is crap. doesnt do anything. the scan is too fast for anything to possibly get defragged. jkdefrag ftw.

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
I believe using the command line options you can choose what files/folders get moved/defragged, you just can't specify exactly where they go. But as I said earlier I'd rather let the tool figure it all out, I have better things to do than analyze and sort a million files on my HDD -
JKDefrag crashes here so I'm stuck with Auslogics

I use Diskeeper 2008. It has option to defrag VSS

O&O Defrag has done fine by me.

Auslogics works fine for me, but ill consider

JkDefrag SCREWED my boot-time, went from ~35s to ~1:30.
But have no fear if this happens to you, use Scud's boot-file defrag solution.

Hi.
I just tried ultimate defrag, but in auto mode it leaves my system with 28% fragmentation?
Regards
John. -
Auslogics does do a fast job at defragmenting but it could be from better algorithm. I've tried System Mechanics before and others and some of them mess up the loading time. It actually took longer to reboot and sometimes reboots 2 or more time before the system is up and running and don't see 'significant' performance. I used to believe the hype of restructuring the programs on the hard drive for faster loading but with today's technology it's not that advantageous.
