Thanks for the heads-up.

Where's FF 3.6 Mozilla?! It seems Mozilla has become comfortable in delaying their releases. 3.6 was supposed to come out by the end of the year but seems really unlikely. Who knows when 4.0 and even 3.7 will come out at this pace.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
3.6 Beta 5 is due soon, so 3.6 probably won't be out this year. -
Free open source software and you're complaining about the service?
-
I agree that because it's open source, it should be given more credit ... still, I do agree with the premise they slowed down their updating.
-
Thanks for the heads up.
Someone used it a yesterday on my website at home already
I wonder if they ever speed up the start up... on a HDD it was unbearable (IE8 was so nice) - now on a SSD its still painfully slow but bearable.

painfully slow? it's <1sec here..
but i agree, they should get it working better at booting.
but if you want to know why its so slow:
in short: too many layers (the firefox layers, a.k.a. xul are listed too) -
Just closed it and opened it again...
About 3 seconds... for what is just a little web browser... no I have an installation free copy of 3.7A1pre (that I found online) - that's much quicker.... -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
problem is, it's not "just a little web browser".
why?
because it's a full own windowing package that works cross platform (and could be used for other apps), it's a html renderer, a javascript parser, it has to load the extensions (which are made with that windowing package, too.. called xul, xml based, not the fastest technology anyways, quite hard to parse)..
all combined creates a big workload to "just start the little webbrowser". which is quite sad. understandable from a developer standpoint, but bad for the end user.
AND they have a very very bad loading mechanism in general, very disk intensive. tons of random small reads with random small writes for some updates, or don't know what crazy thing..
it's VERY slow at loading.
and yeah, the 3.7 is better at it.
still, you have a faster ssd than i have, why is it slower in your case? -
I have no idea
(PS: Opera was quick on a HDD... and does the same, no? (Don't want to go Opera again)) -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
opera does not the same, internally (that's why it has no extension support, that's why it exists on one platform only, etc..)
well.. i guess it's KISs fault
-
Why KIS? I haven't got KIS installed. I'm waiting for 2011 before I give them another chance.
Opera does have add ons...
One platform - maybe.
But its not the same installer in FF for every platform is it? -
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
it does not have addons of similar flexibility, then (it really does have addons? .. okay
)
the trick is, firefox is implemented for a big part in xul, which is platform independent. first, it has to start the xul-engine, to then start firefox with it. similar like a java app. bad is, that engine, or the engines loader-code for the apps is very bad at disk-accessing.
and then the app loads the exts, again using the engine, etc..
quite a lot of extra overhead in there.
well, you said "my system is fast", then you made kis on it and said "my system is slow". then you uninstalled it and said "my system still isn't as fast".
so firefox could be "still not as fast" as it would have been before installing kis at all? -
Well, it affects nothing else.
Everything else is as fast as it should be.
I just looked... its seems I have a few driver problem though...
(startup speed is fine) -
I guess after a while, I start taking things for granted.
After I've seen the mock-ups for 3.7, I want them to release it already. I know you can imitate the look with add-ons but I found it slows down FF and is glitchy.
The people at Mozilla need to be kept in line so they don't start slacking off. FF can't go downhill.

My Firefox isn't working at all today. It says Firefox has stopped working? Windows had to close program and notify you if a solution is available.
I'm having so much bad luck with W7
-
I'd be inclined to say it's an FF issue, not Win7.
-
If you updated FF, something might have went wrong during the update process or something's up with one of your add-ins (if you have any installed). Uninstall FF and reinstall it directly from the website.
-
No change. I went directly to the website the OP supplied and downloaded but it will not run? Strange, I've had no issues with FF until today; and I haven't made any additional updates?
-
Ok... are you sure it didn't update by itself maybe?
Try unistalling and reinstalling it. -
Absolutely. In fact, my last recent update was 12/8/2009, but the program just developed problems today.
-
Something must have changed...
So either in Firefox itself or in the Operating system.... -
For whatever reason 3.56 wouldn't launch so I tried 3.6b and it appear to be working for now. I guess I'll do as they suggest and take it for a spins. Either that or go back to IE? At least all my changes were saved
-
You could always try installing 3.5.5 or 3.5.6 again...
A lot of problems were a programme breaks can be solved by reinstalling it - not all though. -
Do you think that would work for Live Messenger and Aero? These programs haven't worked yet. I always get the white box saying:
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Sadly, they haven't notified me yet.
-
Well, assuming you sent the info off to Microsoft it may be something so obscure that they don't have time or a clue.
Maybe you could start a dedicated thread with it?
At a guess - any programmes running in compatibility mode? (Maple 9.5 doesn't like Aero) or a driver issue - Windows Live Messenger - no idea.
