This is the lowest I could get my new dv5t. Is 45 processes okay? Or should I be looking to lower this number by more? I am using Windows Vista and did not do a fresh install. Just removed all the bloatware I could.
Thanks!

If you are in Vista I would say that is pretty normal, but you probably could get it down by a few more.

There's likely some bloatware parts lingering. You may want to look over the Task Manager and maybe msconfig for anything you don't think should be there.
-
Unless you are suffering from resources or performance issues, i would just leave it. Unless you are certain of some processes that you can do without.
cheers ... -

As qhn said, there's nothing wrong with 45 processes unless you suffering performance issues.
I have 44 right now myself without any problems -
Haha. I have 55 or so processes at start up, but I do run a full anti-malware suite (Avira + SUPERAntiSpyware + Comodo), a dock, undervolting, overclocking, and about 10 other things.

TBH I've gotten it down to 37 on my old laptop with Vista Ultimate SP1, but on this 1 45 is normal

The number of processes running is a horribly silly metric for... well, anything.
Do the running processes provide the functionality you need? Are any of them running out of control, as in, not sleeping 99.999% of the time? Then you're good.
Having 100 processes running with very low memory and idle CPU usage is better than 50 processes with high memory and idle CPU usage. -
45 is nothing! I am usually in the 90s to 100 range.
