Miner it being made by Microsoft is suspicious. But seriously i'm not really the DIY type of person. I just expect WU to update my comp whenever there is an update and that's that, no extra DLing. It just seems like too much hassle to me. Then again, i barely need these updates for what i use my comp to do.

I wonder how long this will take to get on Automatic Updates... I'm still weary of installing WGA.
Does anyone know if it still sends out information about your system to Microsoft? -
You don't have to DL WGA for vista, i'd be weary too because WGA is a spyware/adware/trojan/virus combo. Also i'm pretty sure it does, to confirm your OS's legality.

i don't trust ms...i'll wait until it's available through windows update...ms is known to come out with hotfixes prematurely, and then fix them and have later revisions available for the same hotfix
-
^Then just re-download it.
-
^^my history with my notebook has been nothing but bsod's and freezes, I finally have it stable, so i do not want to mess around with it by applying patches prematurely
-
make a complete backup and give it a try.
-
sorry..not messing with it till it is finalized....im not making the mistake of assuming ms is reliable...i've had nothing but problems with vista and my turbo memory
-
when i install these new window updates, should i delete the old updates that have already been downloaded?
-
No. Why would you do that?
-
u never have to delete old updates
-
Ok thanks for the help.
-
installed all.. been working on laptop for quite some time.. installed some more programs, re booted a number of times, used usb devices (usb modem, ipod, mouse, flash drive).. no problem noted as of now..
battery improvement: none noticed. may be some micro seconds.. who knows! shut down seems to be faster somehow.. not yet measured the time.. -
can anyone please comment on the sleep issue?
-
Does anyone know if this update fixes compatibility with U3 because my new flash drive has U3 and if it works then it'll be easier for me to uninstall directly from inside the program.
-
-
OK I installed these updates and now I get the stuck with a black screen after wakeup problem.
There was a fix for this problem but I forget what. Anyone remember? -
A lot of updates but, I think SP1 will have to have 3x this.
-
I installed these updates and they are shown as important updates.
-
darthsat: I know that Nvidia has been responsible for many sleep problems on Vista. If you want, I'd suggest you to try the latest drivers from nvidia, something like http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_163.69.html
-
I see a black screen for like 20 seconds when turning it on. And by black I mean it looks as if it were off.
-
That something that happens to me too calot, and a couple of other people have said it happens to them too, i don't know why but it's not a virus (since it has been on my computer since i set it up) and it barely slows down startup.
-
I don't remember where but I've seen the solution to this black screen during boot...
-
Flamenko posted something that helped reduce the amount of time it appeared in his vista tweaks thread but didn't get rid of it completely. Also thanks Jonn B for the NVIDA update, which i will install right now.
-
But i dont have nvidia.... Please help me get rid of that, it pissesm e off
-
Look at the first tweak here. It should lower the amount of time the black screen shows. It needs a reboot so if your running any live apps then pause them, or finish up before doing it.
-
calot: the nvidia sleep problem is not the same as the black screen during boot process
-
I've just found something interesting. According to this article, these updates may be available to windows update as soon as Tuesday, or at least were getting some kind of update Tuesday.
-
i randomly get the black screen after resuming from sleep like 1/50 resumes...my comp just ends up restarting on its own..its quite annoying b/c you can't trust your computer before you sleep and have to make sure everything is saved
-
-
+1 vista -
I have occasionally seen this under XP as well. So I don't think this is a real solution but may be able to reduce it from 1/50 to 1/100. -
Strange after install new vista update I don't have any problem with sleep mode. No black screen after wake up.
-
-
I was just informed by vista of 8 updates. Hopefully these are the big updates:

-
Yea, I installed them, but my sleep problems and my file transfer problems persist. Disappointing.
