Buying a new Sony Vaio FW 390 w/Vista. Would like to run XP. Will XP run on this machine? If so, do I have to delete Vista? Any advantage to dual booting both?

    Comments, suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks.

. sure it will run, but at a cost (lost of some sony features per example)

. dual boot is a very good idea. This way you have a working partition whilst trying to get XP to run the way you expect it would run in this machine.

    cheers ...

Just chatted with Sony. They tell me the FW series will not support XP!! Searching the forum for others who have switched to XP...looks like an absolute nightmare for someone to change who is not an expert!!

May stay with Vista (expensive cause I've got to upgrade many programs!!) or simply select another box.

Investigate "Compatibility mode" in Vista. There are threads here about it. It is a way for the OS to trick older apps into thinking they are running under XP. Works wonders for many older apps.

to be honest waiting until Windows 7 is your best bet xp is dying. and vista is not that bad. yes it had issues but they have fixed most of them. no real advantage to dual booting. and sony laptops are overpriced go for an ASUS, MSI, or even a solid HP.

There is no point to download W7 beta. Just wait for final release.

    Thanks all!

Going to stomache Vista. Looks like many of the programs I thought would not run on Vista have patches now.

    Appreciate your time.
