...this question sat unanswered for 4 days on the Windows forums. Maybe someone here can help...

The Windows 7 is the Home Prem OA

    The NAS (there are 2)...

500GB LaCie Ethernet Disk Mini Home. -- this is only a network drive so while it can be accessed using Lacie's external website, it needs to be accessed at higher speeds while I'm on my own network. This drive is the one that I can see the folders but can't navigate into them.

1TB LaCinema Classic HD HDMI HDD USB 2.0 KUA -- this drive should technically be able to be accessed via the network, but it's not. It wasn't accessible half the time with my old XP computer and I'm not worried about it because it is used as a media drive that directly connects to the TV, and I can always plug into it with USB

The old PC has Windows XP home edition and I have no real need to access it. That laptop is 5 years old now and no longer has any use beyond web browsing and quick office suite use. However, it might be important to note that while the windows 7 can "see" the old laptop, it can't connect to it at all. It doesn't ask for a password, just says it's inaccessible.

I have a network drive attached to my linksys router. It was assigned an address of \\192.168.1.105 by the router.

I can type the address into windows explorer, see the main folders... and then when I try to click on one it gives me the dreaded...

    Enter Network Password

I have tried all passwords including the wacky password Windows 7 gave me as my "network password" after running the network wizard. I've even turned the "password protected sharing" option under Control Panel\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings.

can anyone help me access my (NAS) network drive?

I'll try re-setting-up my network drive. The reason I went with Windows first is that my XP computer can access the drive just fine. My other Lacie media drive can pull media from the NAS just fine... AND I have no issues accessing the drive from the online portal.

But since this drive was purchased before Windows 7 came out... it might not be "updated" enough play nicely with 7. I'll check this out and let you know

    thanks

I had this problem and a re-install fixed it. I think I tweaked my services a little too much.

You haven't disabled any have you? Workstation perhaps?

One other thing to look at is Windows NT 6 (Vista and 7) uses SMB 2.0 by default to connect via unc on a network and will downgrade to SMB 1.0 only with a NACK (negative acknowledgement) from the network device. Many of the NAS products used an older version of SAMBA on Linux krnls that didn't respond with the NACK and the companies needed to upgrade the firmware of their devices to provide that functionality...

So I would see if Lacie has firmware upgrade for your NAS.

    HTH,

    Jeff

I found this from another forum by accident:

You have probably several shares in that NAS. To access a certain share, use username same as share name and admin password.

For example, share is named Stuff. Then username to that share is Stuff and password is the admin pw.

It sounds so weird that it might even work, since it's a lacie :D
