Hi,
I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Asus forum, but an initial search indicated this to be a software issue.
I have been trying to play Blu-Ray movie disks on my new Asus G74Sx but all I get is the audio -- No Video. There is only a black screen while I can hear the audio playing. I have tried two different Blu-Ray movie disks with the same result. I can open the disks in explorer and see the files and folders on them. I was able to play a DVD movie disk, and movie files on my computer without any problem.
I updated Cineplayer, which came factory installed, to version 5.8.A06, but no luck. I contacted both Roxio and Asus for the issue. Roxio told me to contact the manufacturer. Asus told me to reinstall the graphics driver, and if that doesn't work, to flash the BIOS. A quick google search showed this to be a DRM issue, with people on other forums advising to contact the OEM for a solution, so what Asus suggested seems extreme.
Any guidance on what should I do?
Thanks.

Trying to reinstall the graphics driver if you haven't already sounds reasonable enough to me. Also, you could try disable a video hardware acceleration/DXVA option in Cineplayer if there is one.

First of all DO NOT flash BIOS yet, a bad flash can lead to an RMA.
namaiki gives Gr8 suggestions, If all else fails try this : VLC media player nightly - Download if you only want free solutions. -
Thanks for your suggestions. I did what namaiki suggested but it didn't solve the issue. As I suspected this to be a software issue, I downloaded the trial version of CyberLink PowerDVD 12. That ran the Blu-Ray movie disks just fine. Clearly the problem is with Roxio's software.
The laptop came with the Blu-Ray drive, so I feel I shouldn't have to pay extra to get a playback software that actually runs the disks, which I will have to once the PowerDVD's trial period runs out. I might take VLC Nightly for a spin but it supports only partially encrypted Blu-ray disks, which seem to be infamous for DRM protection. Besides, I also want support for 3D movies (for which I will be testing PowerDVD shortly).
I've shot off a mail to Asus asking them to provide me a decent playback software. Let's see what they say. Thanks once again.
