I've connected my laptop to a Magnavox TV at work using HDMI. Audio worked the first time I connected my laptop to it till I changed something in Realtek settings. Ever since then it has no audio. I tried setting the TV as default in Realtek.

This is what I'm dealing with now. I found the registry entry for that device Magnavox TV and I'm trying to delete the whole branch that belongs to that audio device but it's restricted (deleting or adding new values). I have owner's access (admin) for this laptop.

I tried deleting it in Safe Mode but the device branch mentioned does not show up.

I just need to purge whatever info the laptop stored about this device (TV) in the registry. Audio info about the TV to be more exact. Do I need to uninstall Realtek audio drivers and re-install it? Why is it restricted? I tried to stop the Realtek service related and the registry's still locked on that side. Do I need to be connected to that device again while I'm changing the registry specs for it?

I can't seem to find any option for HD audio in there, well I'm connected to a diff. TV now. This laptop has Intel and Nvidia, it's a hybrid graphics something. I need to use Nvidia to connect thru HDMI, Intel graphics's too weak. So did you end up cleaning everything related to Realtek with something like a driver cleaner?

nope, i just disabled one and right clicked the other to activate it. as soon as i disabled the on board realtek it dissapeard from the list.
once youve activated the digital output dont forget to go to tv controls and change to hdmi.

Okay, I told the boss it's time for a new TV and he approved it so I don't need a fix for this anymore, one of the guys working with me offered to buy that Magnavox POS on the wall. I'm still puzzled why I can't delete the registry values stored for this monitor. I have a list of like all monitors\TVs I've been connected to before stored in the registry and it's big.

Thanks MrDJ, I greatly appreciate your help!

    1) Open a command prompt window. In Win 7 click Run as administrator
    2) Run these commands in command prompt window:
    Set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
    Devmgmt.msc
    3) Once Device Manager opens click View > Show hidden devices
    4) Click on Monitors
    5) Right click on all entries with dimmed icons, then click Uninstall
    6) Click OK

This method is whacked! I knew there's a way to get rid of that list of monitors. I have about 24 monitors listed or so to browse thru but I'll find it either by manufacturer or device id. Thank you sir!

    ... oh and +1

You're welcome. You can get rid of all the dimmed icon ones safely. If you replug in one that you uninstalled it will just install itself again.

You're right. I'm gonna get rid of all the dimmed ones! The Magnavox TV had two entries (they all have two entries) and the device hwd id was PHLD029. I checked in MonInfo. I kept the ones I'm connecting to daily. Thanks again!

I clicked the Processors branch and it says:

    P8400
    QX9300
    P9700
P9600 (not dimmed) 'cause I'm running on it

It kinda tells you what the laptop's been thru. I remember all these CPU upgrades.
