Can you expand the "not working"? No system sounds/beeps? Cannot play music? Apps dependent? ...
cheers ... -
thanks for the reply qhn.
no system sounds, no sound when i'm playing any cd/dvd, when i'm watching videos etc online - completely across the board. all these play fine when i'm plugged in. -
and you tried with different media players? is it always this way from the start?
cheers ... -
qhn,
yes, i've tried with different media players and it never works.
the audio worked fine when i bought it first day (nearly a year ago) but i've been having this problem for the past 5 months. when i play some audio online, the levels in my control panel/hardware and sound/sound dialogue box are moving up and down, suggesting that the sound card is working correctly. i know it's tough to diagnose but any help would be appreciated. thanks. -
You can try:
. check the audio device within device manager and see if it is somehow set to turn off for power saving
. uninstall and re-install the audio device itself

qhn,
there's nothing indicating within device manager that it is linked into the power saving options. how do i uninstall/reinstall this device? -
Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager
. expand the audio, video & game entry
. you should see the audio controller in there
. right click to uninstall, here you can leave windows to automatically detect hardware change and go from there

so, just to clarify ... with it automatically reinstall after i uninstall it?
-
It should!

qhn,
that seems to have done the trick.
thanks so much, you've been a great help!
i really appreciate it,
