I just got my laptop today. Did all I needed to and now it's time to put it to work. I went to CNet's download.com to get so programs I want, and I can't download them. I've tried all I can think of; even turning off the firewall. That didn't work either. Still couldn't download.

It's gotta be setting in Win 7 that is preventing me from downloading most anything. Oh, by the way, I had NO problem downloading updates from Microsoft. So what setting(s) in Win 7 would be preventing me from downloading?

    Thanks for the help!

Have you tried downloading anything else from other websites?

What browser are you using? And have you tried different ones?

By "not downloading" do you mean the download icon won't pop up confirming you are downloading something, or when you click download it just won't do anything?

Check where your downloads are saving to. Are you sure you are looking in the right folder? (Not all Internet browsers download things in the same folder)

Using IE 8. Have tried other sites. Managed to get Bit Torrent from pcworld.com, but couldn't get it from download.com. When I try to download from say download.com, it just times out and says I have a connection problem. Now when I try to download a torrent, it does nothing.

Where might the downloads be saving to?

Try and download Firefox, it could be your browser.

Is your computer the only thing you have trouble downloading stuff on that is connected to your internet?

It could be your ISP. (Internet service provider)

I'm at school, on a wireless connection, so it's not an ISP issue. The school doesn't block content, so that isn't it. And Firefox didn't change my problem.

Even though the school doesn't block content, it can still block you from downloading. I'd go to the IT Department (Or whatever you call it) and have a chat to them.
