For some reason, when I play a video no image appears. I hear the sound, but there is no picture. I thought that this was only a problem with windows media player (I have Vista Business by the way), but then I downloaded and tried VLC player and there is still no image.

    Any help?

CCCP is a good set of codecs and media player classic which comes with it is also good. Another potential source of the problem is if you're running windowblinds with transparency on. I'm not sure if they fixed this in newer versions, but version 5.0 has this conflict.

It happened when you're trying to play a video without CODEC support then it will crash.

    Or

When you decide to install codec pack, you try to run the video one more time, but still get the same result.

I would reboot and let the codec to be integrated later to the operating system...

Does this happen with every video file format, or just one single file?
VLC has built in codecs for most formats, so if it happens with every codec, it should be a problem with display drivers. Try updating/reinstalling them.

This can also happen if you're trying to play video files on a non-accelerated monitor. If you are running on an external monitor from a laptop with the laptop screen also on, especially with an ATI card, you will often not get video acceleration (even if you do get 3D acceleration).
