I hoping someone has a similiar situation or had one of the problems I am having. I cannot get the sound through onboard speakers, only through the headphones. My system is in perfect condition. I am using the original driver that came with the car Even if it was outdated I should still be getting sound through´the speakers...thus not only through the headphones...Strange I thing.
My specs are in my signature. My vista windows is up to date.

i have non-english windows here, so that i'm only guessing the EN path, however:
- open volume control from your systray (doubleclick)
- in the first column ("volume control" i guess), hit Advanced settings (or whatever says the button in the bottom)
- uncheck the "Mute PC speaker" option and save the settings
did it help? -
Thanks a lot. No it did not work though.
-
Was it always this way? Tried a restore point yet?
cheers ... -
It wasn't always like this. It has happened twice and I had to uninstall the sound card driver and restarted the computer for the drivers to be found again. It worked. So I tried it this time round and nothing happened. I even went to the point of formatting my hard drive and still no sound through the computer.
-
...
Anyway... it could be a problem with the physical speaker.
But... try uninstalling the sound driver and see if you can get sound using just Windows' built-in driver. -
in Control Panel panel, choose the SOUND icon
What appears in the PLAYBACK box? -
Yeah, check your Playback box and make sure your speakers are Set as Default device.
-
cheers ... -
Thanks guys. I will do the things you've asked when I get home. ghn, how do I check to see if the chipset driver is being installed? By your comment it seems you want me to see the process taking place. -
go here
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Look...t=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-001&h_query=hdX9050
download the chipset drivers for your machine
install -
Well, I've tried everything I know and your methods and still nothing. I appreciate your help. I just can seem to get this sound through the speakers to work.
-
you did not say what was in the playback window
Personally, I don'tknow why the other poster wanted you to install chipsetdrivers for this issue (doesn't hurt though).
I want to see the devices and state of your speakers in playback -
I forgot to mention it..sorry. I have:
1. Realtek HDMI Output( I take it this is for flatscreen tv as there is a icon with a flatscreen)
2. Speaker + redicting headphones ( the little green check mark shows this is active)
I installed the chipset that was advised to me ealier on but nothing.. -
ok, not the problem i thought it was
no lets look for 3rd party sound managers in control panel---do you see anything like realtek audio manager? -
I just checked my panel and I see that I have something called IDT Audio Control Panel. When I clicked on it it takes me to the HD sound panel. I like to mention first, when I formattd the drive and installed vista system form the spare drive there was no sound from the speakers...
-
I'm falling back to physical failure, but perhaps I am missing something. In device manager, the sound card is visible and checks OK?
-
Everything says it's ok. I have
ATI HDMI Audio
Bluetooth sound
IDT high Definition Audio codec

just curious: do you use UAC?
If the answer is yes, did you log in as an Administrator to uninstall, install and change drivers? -
-
No, I did not log in as Admin to uninstall, change drivers or install... I had already removed the UAC. -
-
Gerryf19, I tried your method and it worked!!! Thank you so much. Wow!!! Now I am getting sound through my speakers. I am wondering why it prevented sound from coming through the speakers. Weird...
BTW, can you please tell me if anyone has overclocked my brand of laptop? Would it be worth it?
Once again, you've helped me. Thanks to all who have contributed to the cause. I am really greatful. -
The same happened with me. First it was that there was no sound in my ear-phones, but it was in the on-board speaker. Then, suddenly, after a day or two, the sound was in my ear-phones, but not in my on-board speakers!
It is not a software problem, it is a hardware problem. The jack where you insert your ear-phones is faulty. Your system thinks the ear-phones are still inserted in that jack, hence there is no sound from your speakers.
The solution -
Play a song, take your ear-phones, insert them in the jack, and then pull them out, quickly 8-10 times. Insert, pull them out, insert, pull them out. It worked for me, and, hopefully, it will work for you too.
EDIT - gerryf19's trick worked, it was indeed a software problem! Well, it wasn't for me, so I thought maybe this'd work! -
Thanks Silas. I had thought the same thing but was not sure. I had so before but it did not work. As soon as I put in the ear plug then out I got no sound. I just tried putting in the ear phones ad pulled them out. Still have sound but now something weird. I used to listn through plug 2. I have two earphone plugs. Now I can only get sound through plug 1 and notthign through plug 2...funny isn't? This is of course after I had removed the program gerryf19 advised me to remove.
But I can get sound through the speakers and can listen through the phones from plug 1. -
I ran into this before with a Dell studio. The IDT High Def was in conflict with the sound card in the system. The IDT High Def was actually installed by something else...cannot recall what I thought it was at the time--I was just fixing it, so I cannot get my hand on it now.
Now,that studio did not have two jacks...but it seems to me the IDT control panel applet allowed one to change the outputs somehow. I wonder if it is now stuck with the old settings shutting off the one jack?
Just as a chance, uninstall your other sound device in device manager and reboot and let Windows reinstall that -
Thanks. Appreciate your vital input.
-
You won't believe guys. It has happened to me again.. I had to reformat my drive and this brough up the same issue with the sound not coming out of the speakers again. I went through pretty much the same methods describrd here but I still can't get sound. So I would be grateful if you could share your ideas especially if you have the same brand and model laptop I have.
-
Could I get some assistance again please?
-
Did you update to service pack 2 recently or used windows update?
Windows update sometimes automatically downloads and installs the wrong audio driver. -
Why can't I find your laptop on the HP website--you sure you have the model number listed correctly?
Please look on the bottom for the exact model number -
-
-
gerryf19 any thoughts?
-
I am still of the opinion a different audio driver got installed somehow.
Click Start , type recovery into the search field, and then select Recovery Manager from the list when it becomes available.
Say yes, if UA pops up
In the RECOVERY MANAGER window, click NEXT, choose NO to decline PROGRAM RECOVERY, clcik NEXT, click YES to accept DRIVER RECOVERY, and then click NEXT to display the WELCOME TO THE HARDWARE DRIVER re-installation screen.
Now click NEXT on the hardware driver re-installation screen, select the sound driver, click NEXT, wait while HP Recovery Manager reinstalls the ORIGINAL audio driver, and then click Finish .
Reboot
Work? -
thanks again. i'll give this a try when I get home tonite.
Thanks for lending me a hand.
-
this happened to me after windows update ( HP laptop ) , i just used recovery program to recover the original driver that came with my laptop , this happens to me after each windows update
-
-
Gerry, I did what you asked but that did not help.Mmmmm
this is what I have in the device manager under sound:
high Definition Audio Device
Integrated Digital + Analog Hybrid TV tuner
Sigma Tel High Definition Audio Codec
...and here is a screenshot of what I have in the control panel:
-
hope you're still there Gerry buddy...
-
-
No, it did not. That what is strange about it. It started like this since I got the laptop. Only sometimes I've managed to get the sound back and with the help of you guys here the last time. But since I re-formated my drive again, it's gone back to the same darn routine...
-
is it time to call HP??? , and please if u ll be giving then ur laptop be sure to BACKUP ALL I MEAN ALL ur data cause they kinda SMART
-
ah i forget also try linux ubuntu it runs from the CD without installation so u can check ur sound if it works or not

I guess I'll just have to live without the sound. Thanks for the help guys. I am not about to do another re-stall unless I really have to.

Try re-installing your sound drivers. My desktop had the same problems too before. Even worse, aside from the speaker not being able to project the sounds from my PC, my voice recorder was not working too. Hence, I coudn't use YM's voice calls to call my brother abroad. I asked the computer technician about it and that was what he told me to do. After I re-installed my sound drivers, I rebooted my PC and the speakers are now working fine.
If the above solution doesn't work either, try to plug a new adapter or a 3.5 to 3.5 extension. Sometimes, it's either the receiver or the source (of the sound) poses as the reason of your problem.
