MPC + CCCP + CoreAVC codecs have been working fine for me for years watching .mkv files. But now when I open a newly acquired .mkv file, I got no sound. I thought it was something wrong with the file, so I tried to open it using Windows Media Player, and there was sound. I then tried resetting the internal sound filters in MPC, but it did not help... Running Windows 7 64bit. Any help is much appreciated!

Now, this is quite unlikely to work as it is an issue caused by a situation that rarely occurs, but I think it's worth a try.

    Download this file:
    MLP_CharH_Derpy.swf

Make sure that there is no sound when you try play a video in MPC-HC.

Open the above file in MPC-HC and while it is open, click the speaker icon in MPC-HC to mute and then again to unmute and make sure the volume sliders in MPC-HC is at max. Now, try play a video and see if sound comes back.

Also, CCCP now has LAV Filters which is less buggy and better maintained than CoreAVC.

I get an error saying "Flash Player for IE is required". The sound does not come back on the other video.

Err, are all MKV files affected or just that single one?

All mkv, other files like wmv and mp4 play fine. I remember that when I play mkv files before, two little icons would show up on the bottom right notification area. One is a red square and one is a blue square. They say "FFA" or something along that line. These two squares don't show up anymore when I open the mkv files now.
