Hi all, when I start Media Direct on it's own without Vista running I can select the vids etc but when it plays I get audio only. I have all the codecs and when Vista is atarted it works fine and the videos will play in Media Center and Media Player etc..any ideas.

this is due to the lack of codecs.the codecs can only be installed for the OS (i.e vista ) and cannot be done for media direct. so they are not effective in media direct bootup outside vista.
i highly recommend u to remove media direct which is a highly useless stuff and takes 2gb hdd space -
its only useful for dvds

well the dell guys say that if u remove media direct and press the key it will corrupt your windows. i have myself tried this maybe a 100 times for testing and havent yet noted even a minor glitch. the system boots up into windows when u press it if u dont have MD installed. and what is the need of pressing MD button if u know its not installed ???

I have heard that if someone accidently pushes it....I have also heard of peeps mapping the key to another function....thanks...
