As the title states. Just noticed that my system sounds, like the little click when opening folders, the shut down and log on sounds, etc. are not playing. Although, when I adjust the volume on volume control I can hear the "Ding!" Also, sound isn't working in any internet browser, IE, firefox, chrome. In fact, it's not even recognized by the volume mixer. Winamp, VLC, Media player classic, windows media, all work fine. Playing mp3 or avi is no problem. Last thing I did on the computer before I noticed this problem was install Osiris BatteryBar. I think maybe something in the windows folder or registry file got corrupted? reinstall drivers, no change.
Windows 7 home, 32 bit. Asus 1215n.

In control panel open Sound
What is set as your default Playback device?
Right click on it and select Test.
Did you hear anything?
If you have more than one Playback device maybe the wrong device is selected.
Also go to the Sounds tap. There you can see the Windows sounds. You can play them to test. -
i only have 1 playback device. this is a 12'' netbook.
testing windows sounds does nothing. no sound. and on the audio mixer, it'll normally show a bar corresponding to the volume of the audio, there's no bar. -
anyone have any solutions? I did some google'ing seems like some other people had the same problem. Some were missing a registry key or sound drivers in the system32 folder. Fixed by replacing the missing key/file. However this is not my problem. The only other solutions I found were people just reinstalling windows... I don't want to do that.
