    Hi...

I have seen the many threads on the board with freeware optimization programs... and I was wondering if there are any non-freeware optimization programs that are worth buying? Money isn't really that much of an issue.

    Thanks

    Hey Stewie,

I saw this one few days back, while random browsing..

But I wasn't sure if it was all that good.. or like, is it better than us tweaking stuff manually, depending on our preferences? For me I never got in any of these tweak prog', but just did everything manually, based on info and knowledge available from NBR here... anyways..

    fonduekid,

I prefer doing everything manually and edit the registry myself too. But last month, I tested this program on a client's machine and it can get the job done pretty good. You can edit the registry from there as well.

    :)

I've had system mechanic, it was ok. Don't bother with its defrag though. I used jkdefrag and then checked it with what SM said then ran SM's defrag. From what SM measured before and after, SM's defrag actually fragged my HDD.

I don't like all-in-one 'optimization' programs. I never use programs to clean up the registry and such because the risks are too high of something screwing up. The only payware utility I use is Diskeeper 2008 pro, which I really like because it works so well for me. It defragments automatically in the background without a performance hit, and keeps the drive performing nicely.

The rest are all freeware- Spybot, AVG 8 Free, CCleaner, Opera etc.

Anyway, always use the free trial version of a program for evaluation first before you blow any $$ on it.

Edit the registry? I had a friend who traveled that treacherous path. It was the beggining of the end of the life of his Dell as he and his wife had known it. I guess there are some obvious "do's" and "donts" when it comes to playing with the registry.
