I've followed this forum for a while, and since I need to ask this embarassing question, I'm just now signing up!

I have an Asus laptop that I just reformatted for the first time (I have done reformats before) but I'm not sure what the model number for it is. I have my suspicions, but here's the background:

It's a Built on Asus notebook, 2.13ghz Pentium M, 2gb RAM, with ATI x700 video card. From the company that I ordered it from, the model was listed as Asus z70va. Except that according to Belarc Advisor (I'm sure that is a good source, considering it also detected a few rogue drivers), and Windows' System Resouce Report, the model number is actually m6va. Now that I have to reformat it, I need to reinstall the drivers for all the hardware for XP Pro.

On the Asus website, both models are listed; since my computer has the ATI graphics card, I am thinking to go with the model number m6va, even though my suspicions are that z70va model is the Built-on-Asus version which is what I have, versus the Asus m6va model.

Do I have the right decision? And thanks in advance for the help!

Does the BIOS not have the notebook's model no. listed?
Most BIOSs have the notebook/motherboard's model no. listed on the first page of the BIOS. At least all the notebooks I've owned, had a General Information page in the BIOS.

good point, i forgot to mention, the Bios from american megatrends lists the serial number belonging to m6va. But that is what is confusing, is that Built on asus notebooks the z70va model dips into the parts bin of the asus model. I think Im just going to have to mix and match between the drivers listed on the website with the hardware I have, I didn't want to risk installing a driver and not being savy enough to correct the mistake..

^ If the driver is not compatible with your system; AFAIK the most that will happen is that it will fail to install. Then you can just go ahead and try another driver. Unless you've got really bad luck and the driver screw up the machine. :D

But seriously you should be fine trying to install the various drivers. It's hit or miss.
